Mercadona, a company of physical supermarkets and online sales, joins the Great Food Collection 2023 organized by the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL) from November 24 to 30. The company makes its points of sale available to the campaign for fundraising, with the aim of giving its customers the possibility of participating in this great annual solidarity event in favor of Food Banks.

A total of 1,632 Mercadona stores throughout Spain will participate, of which 86 are in the Canary Islands, more specifically 42 in the province of Las Palmas and 44 in the province of Sta. Cruz de Tenerife. In addition, as usual, the company's collaboration in the Great Collection will be carried out through monetary donations, a multiple of €1, which customers will be able to make at the time of purchase at the checkout.

The amounts donated will be fully transformed into the food and products that the participating Food Banks need, in the quantities they need and over the course of a year. In this way, the donation in a box allows the real needs of end users to be covered more efficiently.

Mercadona successfully ends its Spanish citrus campaign with a record of purchases. With an impressive balance of purchases that exceeds 196,000 tons, Mercadona has reaffirmed its commitment to the primary sector and support for national suppliers.



In this campaign, the company has acquired more than 200,000 tons of Spanish citrus fruits, highlighting 140,000 tons of oranges, 56,000 tons of tangerines and 17,000 tons of lemons. These volumes reflect a constant dedication to promoting strong and transparent relationships with more than 25 national suppliers, who in turn collaborate with more than 2,500 farmers throughout Spain.

Mercadona's firm commitment to the primary sector is manifested in its policy of national origin, where more than 85% of the oranges marketed are of national origin. This strategy has been instrumental in strengthening the supply chain and supporting the local economy.

The next citrus campaign of Spanish origin is scheduled to begin in October. From mid-August to the end of October, customers will be able to purchase oranges from other origins. However, at the beginning of October the citrus campaign of Spanish origin will begin, with the arrival of lemons and tangerines to stores. The Aldi chain plans to create 400 jobs and 20 supermarkets in the Canary Islands

The popular German supermarket chain Aldi will open 20 supermarkets in the Canary Islands, where it plans to create more than 400 jobs in the next three years and, in addition, is already building its first logistics platform in the Arinaga industrial estate, in the Gran Canaria municipality of Agüimes, with an investment of 30 million euros.
