Noticias:

Bus drivers wanted in Fuerteventura: more than 300 unemployed people are being trained on the islands.

There are already more than 5,000 people interested in taking the training on the lists, a demand that, they believe, will continue to grow

The Canary Islands Employment Service and the Canary Islands Transport Federation have launched in Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Fuerteventura a training as drivers for unemployed people, which already has 306 students and hopes to alleviate the deficit in the sector on the islands that the employers' association expressed.

In a press conference, the president of the Canary Islands Transport Federation, José Agustín Espino, declared that this course not only implies that "a lot of people have a job, but also that an essential service is covered", both in the movement of people and goods.

Espino welcomed the fact that the project has already been launched, despite the fact that there has been a very significant delay on the part of the administration in addressing the problem.

In addition, he has detailed that there are already more than 5,000 people interested in taking the training on the lists, a demand that, he believes, will continue to grow, while he has trusted that this course will be the beginning and that the places will increase year after year.

During a visit to one of the driving schools that provides the training, the Minister of Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, Jéssica de León, has announced that this pioneering project will also be carried out in the rest of the islands to try to train and address the deficit that the employers expressed of 500 drivers a year, "of which this year we will replace 300".

De León has assured that, according to what the students have told him, "even without having finished their training, they are receiving job offers".

The Vice-President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, congratulated the employers' association and the Ministry for the initiative, which resolves a need in "an important sector for the Canary Islands".

For Domínguez, this is a sector that "needs qualified labor" and it is "an obligation to be able to put on the table an effective tool to train these new workers."

The vice-president added that this course is an example that he hopes to be able to extrapolate to other sectors in which there is also a need to train the people of the Canary Islands.

Canary Islands receives more than 47 million euros in subsidies for public transport.

The Council of Ministers, at its meeting today and at the initiative of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma), has authorized subsidizing this year with 363.7 million euros the public transport of Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and the Canary Islands. Specifically, the nominative subsidies corresponding to 2023 are granted in favor of the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid and the Metropolitan Transport Authorities of Barcelona and Valencia, and the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.

The amount of this aid to finance the collective transport of metropolitan area has the following breakdown:

Madrid Regional Transport Consortium: 126.89 million euros.
Barcelona Metropolitan Transport Authority: 149.3 million euros.
Metropolitan Transport Authority of Valencia: 40 million euros.
Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands: 47.5 million euros.
The regular transport of passengers in these metropolitan or island areas is characterized by a significant volume of population affected, high intensity of displacements, the participation of several administrations in its management and the impact of its operation on general economic activity and various sectors.

The granting of these subsidies is conditional on having a Sustainable Mobility Plan by the beneficiaries, so that state funding also acts as an incentive for the deployment of this mobility planning instrument.

Aid manager
Mitma manages these subsidies in its capacity as Ministry managing mobility, understood as a right of citizens and an element of social cohesion and economic development, to which are also added the subsidies for competitive competition in favor of Local Entities to finance urban collective transport services, which until 2020 were being managed by the Ministry of Finance.

In addition, this 2023 has been granted more than 325 million euros in aid to autonomous communities and local entities to finance the reduction of 50% of the price of urban and metropolitan collective public transport to recurring travelers.
