The young Majorero Tim Elder qualified this week, along with 23 other surfers around the world for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where he will represent the country of his parents, Germany, but will be a Majorero participant in the Olympic Games in one of the most popular sports on the island.



Elder, a native of Lajares, who learned to surf on the north coast of Fuerteventura, was busy planning a trip to Teahupo'o in Tahiti when an unexpected qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games forced him to modify his travel plans.


Tim, who was born in Fuerteventura in 2003, was 2 times champion of the Canary Islands in junior categories and champion of Spain for regional teams with the Canarian team.


"Actually, I was saying to my friends, 'Hey, maybe we should go to Chopes to surf,' when Didier [Piter, German surfing coach] said to me, 'yes, why don't you look to qualify [for the Games]?'" Elter tells Olympics.com.

"I wasn't even sure it was coming," the 20-year-old Elter said on his debut at the 2024 ISA World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico. "I wasn't sure until the last training camp and it turns out I made the team and now I'm in the Olympics and it's crazy."



Born to German parents, Elter was born in Fuerteventura and grew up in the village of Lajares and started surfing when he was six years old. His first surfing competition came two years later.



"Surfing is my life," he says. "I can't imagine not living by the sea. It gives me so much adrenaline, so much joy. There are so many moments that I associate with surfing; Good and bad, but times when I grew as a person. I owe a lot to the sea and what I've learned from it."]]>

The Canarian Swimming Federation has published the 2024 Calendar of the Events that will enter the Canary Islands Cup of Sea Crossings and, for the first time in history, there are 4 Events on the island of Fuerteventura, being the island that will have the most tests. It is also remembered that to be champion of the Canary Islands you can score points in a maximum of 6 races of this Calendar.



The Calima Club organizes two of these Events with the Sun and Moon Crossing, which has returned to its original month, June, and with shows, competitions and concerts. The other crossing is the II Travesía de Puerto del Rosario Memorial Alberto Juez. This will be held in September and will score double points as it is a Premium Stage of the Canarian Federation.

This competition is held in memory of the well-known surfer from El Cotillo David Infante, El Fula, who died in an accident practicing his favorite sport


The celebration of the 8th edition of the Lanzarote Quemao Class has been confirmed from tomorrow, when the town of La Santa, in Lanzarote, will once again become the world epicentre of sport, welcoming 64 athletes -32 surfers and 32 bodyboarders- from all over the world.



These internationally renowned surfers and bodyboarders are already flocking to La Santa, Tinajo, to compete in one of the most spectacular volcanic reef waves in the world, and the main attraction of this event, the El Quemao wave. With a forecast that gives periods of 13 to 15 seconds, offshore wind and waves of 2 meters, as well as sun and temperatures of up to 22ºC, showing all the benefits of this island of the Canary Islands for water sports.



This Sunday the tribute in memory of David Infante "El Fula" took place, in memory of the emblematic surfer who lost his life in El Quemao in 2009 and in whose honor the first edition of the championship was held, in 2015. It will begin at 16:30 p.m. with the family photo, to begin the tribute ceremony at 17:00 p.m.

The original rider from Fuerteventura, Ancor Sosa, has left everyone with their mouths open during the first day of competition of the Gran Canaria Air Battle, the largest kitesurfing and wingfoil festival in Spain that hosts this year the Gran Canaria beach of Las Burras from December 6 to 10. With conditions that improved the forecasts, it has been possible to carry out tasks in the modalities of Wingfoil Freefly-Slalom (zigzag races) and Surf-Freestyle (freestyle), led by Ancor Sosa, in addition to holding the first round of Big Air Kitesurfing (high jumps), in which Noah Nicolas from Tarife stood out in the men's category and the Majorera Zoe Sosa (Ancor's sister) in the women's.

We have two trail routes, one of 17.5 km that reaches the mountain of Bayuyo and another of 10.5 km that goes up to the viewpoint of Calderón Hondo. We also have hiking and a children's race. The XXIV Crossing to Swim Isla de Lobos – Island of Fuerteventura will take place next Sunday, October 15, having registered a high rate of registrations in just an hour and a half, from the moment the deadline opened, reaching 258 registered swimmers. 258 swimmers in the crossing from Lobos to Corralejo this Sunday in the XXIV edition.



The crossing will have a route of 3,500 meters leaving from the Punta del Marrajo and arriving at the ramp of the marina of Corralejo.



The diversity of origins of the participants (Italy, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Holland, USA, Madrid, Malaga, Barcelona, Granada, Basque Country and a wide representation of all the Canary Islands) give a good account of the great expectation that this sporting event produces among swimming lovers, being more than 66% of the participants non-residents on our Island.



As every year, since the beginning of this Crossing, we will have the presence of outstanding swimmers of this sport such as ARANZAZU ARANEGA BENITEZ Canarian swimmer specifically from Tenerife, with multiple championships and records of Spain, Europe, the Canary Islands and this year, third in the world in Open Water, in the World Cup held in Japan. It is always the objective of this Society to combine sport and nature, and to promote inclusion in all areas of society through the practice of physical activity, as demonstrated, for example, by the age of the swimmers registered this year which is between 14 and 85 years.



The departure of the 258 participants will take place around 12:00 hours from Punta de Marrajo, in Isla de Lobos, while the arrival of the first swimmers is expected around 12:45 on the ramp of the Corralejo Marina. Previously, it will be carried out in the Nautical School, the control of the participants, the official photo, and later the boarding of the swimmers will be carried out in the Celia Cruz boat (approximately 11:30 hours). As in previous editions, security measures have been reinforced. The official inauguration took place yesterday, September 7, on the façade of the Hermitage of Our Lady of Charity, in Tindaya, with the presence of Jonay Marín, organizer of the event, of the Al-Máximo Sports Club; Gleiber Carreño, Councillor for Sports and Youth; David Fajardo, Councillor for Tourism and Environment; Luis Alba, Councillor for Works and Services; David Hernández, Councilor for Culture and Opening of Activities; and Adargoma Hernández, Councilor of the Insular Area of Water, Education and Youth.

Gleiber Carreño highlighted the importance of the test for the revitalization of Tindaya through the incorporation of new obstacles, while David Fajardo highlighted the commitment to sustainability and the environmental environment of Tindaya.
