Tender for new section of North-South axis, Cuchillete to Matas Blancas
#1
Radio Sintonia:

The Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, has just put out to tender the contract for the drafting of the project for the layout and construction of a new section of the North-South axis of roads in Fuerteventura between Cuchillete (next to Gran Tarajal) and Matas Blancas worth 1,450,661 euros. This project aims to improve the connections between Tuineje and Pájara, as well as to give continuity to the road axis between Corralejo-Puerto del Rosario-Morro Jable that connects the different municipalities of Fuerteventura.

The new corridor will have a route of about 23 kilometers and will begin at the junction of the FV-2 and FV-4 roads in the vicinity of the industrial area of El Cuchillete and will end approximately at the Matas Blancas link, adjusting its layout to the existing link, where the highway section begins again completing its continuity. At the same time, the project to be drafted must safeguard the existing Protected Natural Areas in the vicinity of the project and adjust as much as possible to the Fuerteventura Island Plan for Territorial Planning (PIOF).
The work will be divided into two parts, a first that will consist of the drafting of the layout with which the file will be processed to obtain the Environmental Impact Statement and a second in which the Construction Project will be written.
Development of the North-South Axis
This work is added to the work that the Ministry is developing on the island to continue complementing the North-South Axis. The stretch of highway between Caldereta-Puerto del Rosario and the airport is currently being executed, and the tender for the corridor between the Airport and Pozo Negro is already being processed. The section between Pozo Negro and Cuchillete that will connect with the new road whose project goes out to tender today is also in technical processing.
In addition, it has recently put into service the semi-link of the Dutch Park, an improvement of the Corralejo-Caldereta section that allows to directly connect the North motorway, FV-1, with this urbanization located in the municipality of La Oliva.

More than 1 million euros for the drafting of the project of the new section of the North-South Axis of Fuerteventura.

The Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, directed by Pablo Rodríguez, has formalized, for a total of € 1,085,112.20, the administrative contract for the drafting of the layout and construction projects of the new Cuchillete – Matas Blancas section on the island of Fuerteventura.
The joint venture, formed by the companies Grusamar Ingeniería y Consulting, S.L.U., Gestión Integral de Proyectos e Inversiones en Canarias, S.L.U. and Henríquez Sánchez Ingeniería y Arquitectura, S.L.P., has been awarded the contract to develop this project that aims to give continuity to the Corralejo – Puerto del Rosario – Morro Jable corridor and improve the connections between the municipalities of Tuineje and Pájara.
The construction of this new road, which completes the North-South axis of Fuerteventura, will have a route of 23 kilometers that will begin at the junction of the FV-2 and FV-4 roads, in the vicinity of the industrial area of El Cuchillete, and will end at the Matas Blancas link.
Likewise, during the drafting of the project, the route of this new connection to the link where the highway section begins will be adjusted to give continuity and guarantee the protection of the existing Protected Natural Spaces in the vicinity of the project.

Development of the North-South axis

The North-South axis is one of the most important infrastructures for the island of Fuerteventura for its ability to promote socioeconomic development and facilitate road communications to all majoreros and majoreras.
Most of the sections, such as La Caldereta-Corralejo, Costa Calma-Pecenescal and Pecenescal-Valluelo have already been executed, with the Puerto del Rosario-La Caldereta section currently being executed; and, in the drafting phase of the project, the sections of Airport-Pozo Negro and, the recently awarded, Cuchillete-Matas Blancas.
In this sense, the Ministry has been developing, since 1997, an informative study with the aim of establishing the necessary actions to define and complete the high-capacity road network of the island of Fuerteventura, better known as the North-South axis, a road corridor of regional interest that will provide the Island with a communication axis, with highway category, which will extend practically throughout the entire island length. All these recommendations have been included in the different collaboration agreements between the State and the Government of the Canary Islands.
