Ants and how to control/edadicate them

Not sure I want to use that then because of our dog, but thanks anyway. Would try the fizzy drink on floor but I think that would only work in the kitchen - still I suppose that is the main place we want to eradicate them.

As for the bathroom ants, if you put down any sugar they will be drawn to it just the same! You only need to spill a drop or two on the floor and wait about thirty minutes and you should be able to see where they are going to. 

Just make sure it's not the non-sugar version, don't imagine they'd be too interested in that! 

Ice cream is another great alternative. The place we rented in Costa Calma was absolutely riddled with those tiny ants— I remember dropping ONE drop of ice cream on the counter, and because the countertop was speckled, I didn't even realise I'd spilled... Until I came back and noticed there was literally a penny-sized circle of moving tiny bodies where the ice-cream drop was. Very unpleasant surprise, but it certainly got their attention, so I filed it away for later use if necessary. 

Now that I think about it, both places we stayed in CC had those tiny ants, and they really are murder to get rid of. Fortunately, the ones we see in Caleta seem to be the larger ones which are easier to see and thus to irradiate. I saw some REALLY big ones on the way to the Spar the other day out on the beach walk. They were about 1cm long, and had wings! You can imagine I sprinted away from those quickly...

The KH7 didn't affect my cat, but it stopped the ant invasion.

I use KH7 Desic every week, leave my dog outside until the floors have dried, no problems for my dog.

The warmth with the calima seems to have sparked an outpouring of ants  . It is good to kill the ones that have come inside but you really need to attack the nest to minimise future visits - a never ending task here though!

There are several other products that I use. An ant powder - hopefully a few will pick this up and take it back to their nest where it should annihilate the colony  . Several versions of this on sale in most ferreterias:

And then there is a spray that you can use as a barrier around doors/windows etc. Also along skirting until you can regrout! They often get inside through electrical sockets so spray around them as well - they are often found merrily trooping along a cable!
Spar/Padilla stock this and some ferreterias.


Worth checking around the outside of the building to see if you can spot where they are entering the blockwork - good site for the powder!

I had a major ant issue back in Berlin... 4 types, all over everything all the time.
I tried sprays, cleaners, powders and finally found soemthing that works:

These are small plastic discs that contain a compound. Ants love it and carry it back to their nest - where the compound proceeds to poisen them all. Not the most humane way - but I'd rather that than having to throw food out all the time.

Here I had a similar issue, ants in the cat food. So on my nect trip to Mercadona I looked on the shelves and they have some (own brand and green in color - 2 in a box)
AND
Problem solved here too!

Just place it near to where the ants are going.
Wash your hands after handling.

I now have 5 around the house, and totally ant free.... Yay to cookies in bed again.

Glad those things worked for you McAdam, certainly worth a try by anyone but personally haven't found them any use at all.

If you have enclosed areas where ants are getting these are quite useful! They are anti-moth 'teabags'! I use them in wardrobes and chest of drawers against moths and have found they work well in kitchen cupboards against ants. Also worth poking a few behind the kickboards at the bottom of kitchen units.

Good idea Tamara. I picked up actual moth balls from one of the Chinese shops, haven’t seen them in years. Brings back memories/smells of my Grandmother’s fur coat 😁😁
One thing I did when fitting our kitchen (from IKEA) was to put everything on 12 inch metal legs. Means you have “shorter” cupboards but you can see right under to the wall behind & all units were also silicone sealed to the wall when fitted. Makes it easy to see & leaves no nooks & crannies for critters 😁😁
