Just tried in FF on Mac and didn't have any problems. Can't see any reason it's not working— if the rest of the forum is working for you, doesn't seem like anything is disabled on your end and it's working on the server side.
Can you see the little paperclip to the left of the number of replies per thread on a forum listing? Here, for example. The "need some help with our garden" thread has one, and so does the "population" thread. If you hover your mouse over the paperclip, does it give you a tiny popup telling you how many attachments are in the thread? Included a pic of what it looks like for me:
If that's working, I think that means the PHP isn't tripping you up, so I don't know what the issue is...
