Well, I got onto the website, and the Empadron and the History of the Empadron were available, but the Travel Certificate said no one in this household qualified, despite the History document showing that I had been registered for more than 5 years.

No idea what to do now, but Binter and Fred Olsen both recognised my right to residents discount.

So, the plot thickens!!!

Previously, Bitnair, Fred Olsen etc accepted our right to the travel discount without question. However, yesterday I wanted to book flights to Barcelona.  On Ryanair, as soon as I specified La Oliva as my region, the site crashed.  Tried it three times, same result!

I tried Iberian Airlines, only qualify for the discount if I can produce a hard copy of the travel discount certificate at the boarding gate, which I can't get from La Oliva!!

So, anyone have a definitive answer on this matter please.

Have you tried asking at La Oliva Ayuntamiento lately Tom? They issued us paper ones about a month ago although we didn't need them in the end.

As some know we have been here a while.
BUT early in the year when we could not get a viaje I went to the Ayuntamiento in la Oliva prepared for a showdown
They checked our records going right back then agreed that we were resident here,issued us a brand new padron and told us when we needed to come again.
At that time they would not give us a viaje because our Ties were temps.
They had no way of telling the difference between a one year, two year or 5 year temp cert so I understand their reluctance to hand out viajes in that instance.
As I said from last week we now have viajes plus access to them via the electronic key.
I think the "secret" is to get ones historical padron sorted and then all else falls into place.

Unfortunately David my historical padron is sorted/correct but it still doesn't allow me to obtain the cert viajes online, and I've been Resident for more than 10 years. So glad it's working for you now though.

Thanks for your advice Tamara and for David's good new post.  We visited La Oliva this morning, complete with the Empadron History document in hand (anticipating problems) but we very pleased to be issued with two Travel Certificates without question.  

Still don't understand why we can't do that online, but the very helpful assistant assured us that they are or will be available online in future.  

Now to rebook that flight to Barcelona, with the residents discount this time.

PS. Next day; I can now access the travel certificate online and print out whenever needed rather than visiting office and paying, so anyone with 5 years plus on Empadron and TIE please note: 1st application has to be in person but afterwards online if you have the Digital Certificate.

Out of curiosity I checked if we both could get the viajes on line, yes we can.

We have just booked with Armas successfully (remembering I only have one surname) and on their email they said we only need to present the TIE for boarding. BUT i think we will carry every thing else as well!!

Hi David since we got our TIE's over 12 months ago all we have ever used to board the Armas ferries are our cards which they swipe through their machine and it announces you are a resident, we have made 9 ferry crossings so far no problem.

I am now able to produce the Viaje certificate. I have done nothing since my last attempt so I can only presume that the website/system has had an update - about time - but not complaining, just very pleased.
