Christmas weather?
#1
Not.icias:

Weather models point to a strong southern storm that would begin at Christmas.

Winds of up to 68 km per hour and waves of up to four meters in some areas of the north and west of the island.
The Weather situation during the next week will be very calm, with light winds from the east and southeast and rising temperatures, but everything would change on Christmas Day as almost all Weather models are already pointing out.

In this way from Monday to Friday we will have temperatures around 24 degrees in some areas of the island, with light winds from the east. In any case and in relation to the state of the sea, caution is recommended in coastal areas, especially to the north and west of the island, with waves that could reach 3 meters high in much of the week.

Radical change

Forecasts suggest that from Sunday 25 there is a good chance that we will reach a storm, with strong winds from the south-southeast, which could bring rain to Fuerteventura. The winds could reach 68 km per hour on Monday and would begin to lose strength on Tuesday night.

Great caution is advised in coastal areas throughout the island, especially north and west, where waves could reach 3 meters high. The force of the sea will remain from the north-northwest. The operation of the Corralejo dock could be endangered during the return of the Christmas holidays.

Continued easterly winds throughout the week will bring suspended dust for a few days to the island.

The Barcelona Dust Forecast Center, jointly managed by AEMET and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, which produces and distributes daily predictions of dust content in the atmosphere, warns of a high possibility of intrusion of calima in height in the archipelago for this week

It is not a strong intrusion, but it is true that caution must be exercised in those with respiratory problems, especially worrying with the sick and elderly.

Southern storm that will begin on December 25

In any case, the calm can be an anecdote if we look at the forecast of strong south winds that will begin on Sunday, Christmas Day, but that will be especially virulent on Monday 26, with winds that could exceed 75 km per hour. It's still early a week away, but all models point to that scenario

The south wind is especially tricky when blowing strongly on the island, since most ports and in general houses and villages are oriented to protect the prevailing wind from the northeast. Great caution is advised

Forecasts maintain strong to very strong winds from Monday.

It will begin to be noticed on Christmas Day but they will arrive with great force at dawn from Monday to Tuesday.
The winds associated with the low pressure or dana that will almost certainly visit the islands from Monday could be strong or very strong.

Continuous easterly winds with gusts that can reach 75 kilometers per hour will be very virulent on the island. A lot of caution is recommended especially in the early hours of Monday to Tuesday, but generally Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The state of the sea will be complicated and the ports of Morro Jable and Corralejo could be affected.

The Canary Islands currently have one of the worst air quality in the world.

The Calima is primed at the moment in Gran Canaria but is expected to rebound tomorrow in Fuerteventura.
The World Air Quality Index meter that assesses global air pollution and its real-time air quality index, indicates that right now in the Canary Islands we have one of the worst indexes in the world due to the incidence of haze.

Great caution is advised, especially for people with lung disease and children and the elderly. Although the air quality in Fuerteventura has improved as the afternoon has passed, at this time the worst air quality has been measured in Gran Canaria, but almost all forecasts warn that tomorrow the suspended dust will be even denser in the Maxorata.

The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Public Health, and given the forecast of the presence of calima for the coming days, recommends that the population take precautions such as avoiding prolonged exposure to outdoor air, keeping windows closed and not making physical efforts outdoors.

Health recalls in a note that dust in suspension contributes to drying the respiratory tract and, in many cases, can cause an aggravation of conditions or symptoms related to respiratory diseases, such as asthma, people with chronic obstructive disease (COPD) that increase visits to emergency services and hospital admissions in some cases.

Exposure to this contaminant can cause chest discomfort, coughing, palpitations, fatigue or increased susceptibility to respiratory infections, at least for five days after the onset of the episode.

Therefore, it is recommended to people sensitive to this type of episodes (children, the elderly and people with chronic respiratory or cardiovascular diseases), measures such as not going out on the street and keeping doors and windows of houses closed; Perform cleaning surfaces with dust with damp cloths or stay in humid environments and hydrate.

It also advises not to perform physical exercises outside and in case of worsening respiratory symptoms call 1-1-2.
