Craft market in Tetir

I went along to the market on Sunday and spent an enjoyable hour there.

The field where the dog show was held last time was no longer green and lush!:

Tasters of various cheeses and preserves and this stall offering tasters of gofia which had just been moulded into a ball inside a goat skin!:

   

Then on to the craft beers. Ocho Pies (8 feet??) and LAJA seemed be the 2 Fuerte ones and there were 2 other Canarian brews. LAJA did it for me as it was icy cold and on tap!

Live music added to the atmosphere and the resident cafes/bar were doing a roaring trade.

   

A pleasant change for an hour or two.

Walking back to the car I passed a tree that looked totally dead but was offering a haven to hundreds of snails:

and an old well/reservoir that was so deep we couldn't see the bottom and was covered in very dried out poles! (It was well fenced in.)

The quarterly market was on again today so we went to Tetir for an hour or 3.
The church was open so we took the opportunity to have a look around inside, quite interesting and several very nice features, I particularly liked the wooden roof seen from the inside. The very large religious paintings didn't do much for me but it looks as if they have uncovered some old frescoes on the wall that held my attention far more.
A look round the various stalls, they seem much the same ones each visit, bought some fresh fruit and veg including a very large pineapple. Attacking it later at home found it tasted even better than it looked - absolutely gorgeous! Bought some more of the craft beers that we tried last time. Watched a display of Canarian dancing to Canarian music - nice to see some mature ladies playing the guitars - and all the dancers and musicians seemed to really being enjoying themselves.
The big tree outside the church caught me attention today, I think it's an Acacia or Eucalyptus, the trunk/bark looked very attractive with it's patchy, peeling effect. Taking a pic of the tree showed me the date on the church, 1883.

On Sunday, September 8, Puerto del Rosario celebrates the Artisan Market of Tetir.

In this new call highlights the extension of the schedule from 10 to 16h and the participation of craft beers made on the island.

The “El Bernegal” and the musicians Sergio Jiménez and Carlos Cabrera will be in charge of setting the activity with live music.

The City Council of Puerto del Rosario, through the Department of Tourism, which runs the councilwoman Sonia Alamo, encourages visiting this September meeting with the artisan market of Tetir as an excellent opportunity to spend a Sunday day with family and friends knowing artisan products and enjoying a leisure proposal in a rural environment like that of Vega de Tetir.

One of the most innovative activities in this edition of the Tetir Artisan Market is undoubtedly the participation of craft beers. Again, and after the success in the previous edition, craftsmen of Canarian beers join, to present their gastronomic beers made from natural products.

The Tetir Market, which already exceeds ten years of existence, is held every quarter and continues to consolidate edition after edition, presenting in the last calls an average of 35 stands, bringing the number of artisans who meet in the square Tetir, does not stop growing. In the same way, the tents and shaded areas have been gaining space for the convenience of artisans and visitors. Children also continue to have their own offer of activities.

Confectionery, traditional products and a lively atmosphere, are some of the keys that define the Tetir Artisan Market that is displayed in the Public Square of the town.

Within the planned schedule there will also be place for different draws among the audience.

The capital's mayor, Juan Jiménez, points out that “the Tetir Market continues to present novelties, compared to previous editions, and becomes a meeting point, included in the Calendar of the island's artisan products, which is worth visiting . The possibility of making the market every two months instead of quarterly is currently being studied. ”

So it was off to the market this morning. Cloudy start but the sun was breaking through when we got there just after 11am. Bought a tiny little locally grown pineapple, the only one they had left, so I can add the top to my starter pineapple plants!
Seemed a bit quieter than previous occasions, perhaps because we were a bit later than normal, or perhaps people had planned to come later as now open longer hours.

  
 

While peering at an old building we were entertained by an old boy who did a little dance in the street demonstrating that the place had been used for treading grapes - he was great!

I was at the market this afternoon. The mayor made an announcement that from now on it will be held every two months rather than three.

Nice Weather for today's visit, bright and sunny although a steady cool breeze.

Didn't seem very busy, normal range of stalls, dog show of Bardinos.

We also went to the Tetir Market which we thoroughly enjoyed.  Bought bread, honey, some vegetables and a lottery ticket.  Afterwards drove to the Oasis Park Christmas Market which was much bigger and had a distinctly German twist.  Again thoroughly enjoyed it.
