Drone pilots getting qualifications in FV
#1
Radio Sintonia:

Drone pilot, an increasingly demanded qualification.

The president of the Cabildo, Sergio Lloret, delivered today, Wednesday, March 29, in the Insular Auditorium of Puerto del Rosario, 60 diplomas and cards to students who have obtained the title of UAS pilots, for Earth observation using unmanned aerial systems, after completing the training at the 'Geo Training Center' of the 'Canarias Geo Innovation Program 2030'.

Some "300 pilots needed" for Fuerteventura
A program in which, as detailed by President Lloret, "it is expected that about 300 drone pilots may be needed, and around 200 have already completed the training, so we congratulate and certify them".

In the words of the first island councilor, "what we must do now is begin to believe that this leap in global technological innovation is going to be developed in Fuerteventura. We are convinced that it will be of interest because other continents are also making bets like this, which generate new opportunities for the business fabric and, above all, for the most qualified generation in the history of our island, which deserves that we have opportunities beyond the service sector, so that diversification grows".

Lloret was accompanied in the delivery of the qualifications by Juan Jiménez, mayor of Puerto del Rosario, and Eduardo Pereira, manager of the Technology Park, where this program is developed.

Canarias Geo Innovation Program
Mayor Juan Jiménez commented that "we are at a really crucial moment in terms of the leap in quality and economic diversification, not only of Puerto del Rosario, but of the entire island. The fact of being able to know in a reliable and close way the content of each of these projects really gives hope and illusions that this is a palpable reality".

In the same line, Eduardo Pereira, added that the most important component of the 'Canarias Geo Innovation Program' is training. "We are going to need trained, prepared people, otherwise we will not succeed, because it is an R + D + i program that has important difficulties. For this we have engineers, aeronautics, telecommunications engineers, computer scientists or physicists. But we want the basis of the development of this project to be based on people with qualifications from higher cycles, baccalaureate, first-degree level careers, and we are going to make a lot of effort to train them."

An increasingly demanded degree
The course received by these students is part of Phase I of the Training and Instruction Program in Advanced Operations with UAS, which since June 2022 has had 505 enrolled, of which 245 participated, including students from CEIP Puerto Cabras and CIFP Majada Marcial. Of these, 215 have completed the course and obtained the qualification of drone pilot in levels A1, A2 and A3, while 30 continue in training. In addition, 145 people obtained the qualification of drone pilot with advanced level (STS01).

The objective of this training is to have competent people on the island of Majorera, who have the necessary skills and abilities so that they can work and develop professionally in the projects of the Canary Islands Geo Innovation Program 2030.

Another purpose is to provide training and specific instruction in new technologies for earth observation, based on the intelligent analysis of the data obtained by sensors embedded in aeronautical and aerospace platforms to support critical service missions.

In this sense, the courses offered within the framework of this program are necessary to obtain authorizations in various areas, among which stand out, in addition to the pilot training of UAS platforms (drones) and HAPS (pseudosatellites), the courses of operators of on-board sensors; analyst of missions with UAS and HAPS such as: surveillance, natural spaces, emergencies, coasts and marine pollution, prevention, alert and management of forest fires, infrastructure analysis or hospital transport, among others.

EU-funded programmes
Likewise, other trainings that are given are development and integration of payment loads in UAS and HAPS; specialized maintenance of UAS and HAPS; design and provision of air traffic services; data transmission, remote control and ground-to-air communications with UAS and HAPS; data management and processing (Big Data, Open Data, Artificial Intelligence, etc.); and development of new products, services and value-added solutions (GeoLab).

The Canarias Geo Innovation Program 2030, and its projects under development, are financed by the European Union through FEDER Funds, is a joint initiative of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, the Ministry of Economy, Industry, Trade and Knowledge of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Canarian Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society of the Government of the Canary Islands, and the Canarias Avanza con Europa plan.
