El Matorral to get bus lane
#1
Sintonia:

El Matorral will have an exclusive lane for buses

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the City Council of Puerto del Rosario, agree to the realization of a new exclusive lane for buses as a solution to the daily problem of traffic jams that occur at the height of the bus stop in the town of El Matorral, in a south-north direction.

This initial agreement has been taken during a meeting held this morning, June 14, headed by the president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and Minister of Roads, Sergio Lloret López, together with the Minister of Transport of the Island Corporation, Carmen Alonso, and the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, Juan Jiménez. On the part of the local Executive, Peña Armas, Councilor for Personnel, Contracting and Institutional Relations, Domingo Curbelo, Councilor for Transport, and José Juan Herrera, Councilor for Works, also attended.
In this way, the new lane would start leaving the first roundabout towards an exclusive lane for public transport of buses, and that will continue its journey along the road parallel to the main road, La Apañada street, until reaching the exit at the second roundabout that connects El Matorral with the FV-2 road to continue with its itinerary. In addition, the widening of the road will be carried out, especially in the area of the radius of the roundabout to allow the rotation of some of these means of transport that reach 15 meters.
With this solution, in addition to avoiding traffic jams at busy times by vehicles, it is intended to enhance road safety, both for pedestrians, reducing the number of people who have to cross the road, and for car users, who frequently receive impacts by reach due to the density of traffic in the area. To this end, the future project will also include the installation of new horizontal and vertical signage, beaconing and lighting improvements, as well as a new infrastructure for the canopy and bus stop, adjusted to the municipal and island accessibility plan.
"From the Cabildo we consider that we must work in coordination with the rest of the Institutions to establish the best services to the citizens of the island, in this case, to the users of the public transport of buses of El Matorral, as well as to all those people who use this route to get to their jobs", said the island's president, Sergio Lloret López. Likewise, the president added that "in this case the important thing is to carry out this action quickly and to improve and find a safe solution for public transport".
Lines
In total, there are 5 interurban lines that circulate in the area, so, to avoid scheduling problems, a drill will be carried out so that once it enters into operation it does not cause incidents to the users of this public transport.
On the other hand, the president added that "once the north-south road axis is in operation, it will be a safe solution to public transport and connectivity between the towns of the island, because it eliminates the problems of retention".
For her part, the Minister of Transport and Accessibility, Carmen Alonso, has celebrated the consensus with the City Council of Puerto del Rosario to be able to solve the problem of people who use public transport from El Matorral and added that "having a single lane for the buses compensates in time for users, in addition to security, as the most appropriate of the different alternatives that have been studied to put a solution".
The mayor of Puerto del Rosario, Juan Jiménez, on behalf of the Municipal Corporation, valued the meeting established and the agreement reached between the Cabildo and the City Council, "with the idea of providing greater security to pedestrians circulating in the area, as well as to give greater fluidity to traffic in general, and public transport in particular, through a new special lane for buses."
