Radio Sintonia:
Fuerteventura becomes Texas in the American feature film "Catching Dust".
Fuerteventura hosts since June 8 the shooting of the independent feature film Catching Dust. The film is the debut film of director Stuart Gatt, who has searched the island for the Texas desert of Big Bend, starring Erin Moriarty (The Boys, Captain Fantastic), Jai Courtney (Suicide Squad, Terminator Genisys), Dina Shihabi (Archive 81, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan) and Ryan Corr (House of the Dragon, High Ground).
Catching Dust tells the story of two couples in the solitude of an abandoned commune in the desert, a perfect setting in which the motivation of each character will be discovered: from the need to hide from the world to the impatience to meet him.
The film is shot entirely on the island for four weeks in locations in Puerto del Rosario, Antigua and La Oliva, planning to leave an investment in the island of around 2.4 million euros.
The filming has been developed thanks to the coordination of Fuerteventura Film Commission, as well as the collaboration of the municipalities of the municipalities that have hosted the recording.
The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Sergio Lloret López, has highlighted the importance of film shootings from the point of view of generating activity and economic diversification, as well as to place Fuerteventura as an increasingly consolidated place for the filming of national and international productions.
For his part, the CEO of Fuerteventura Film Commission, Rayco León, explained "the objective is that the production companies come to shoot and have the local business fabric".
"Fuerteventura is the island that we have the most requests for filming this year and, if the forecasts are met, a record year is planned not only in investment, but also in the number of productions," added the island councilor.
During 2022, Fuerteventura has already hosted the filming of Catching Dust and American Star, two medium-sized films, which are the ones that offer the most opportunities for local companies. In addition, high-profile series such as Foundation of the Apple TV platform and numerous advertising spots have been filmed.
Catching Dust is produced by Mark David, Jon Katz, Edward R. Pressman and Civilian 7 Entertainment's own Stuart Gatt. The executive production in the Canary Islands is in charge of Sebastián Álvarez of the production company Volcano Films.
The executive producer and manager of Volcano Films, Sebastián Álvarez, clarifies that the audiovisual potential of Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands has grown, "and it is the recurrence of this type of independent productions that truly generates muscle in the Canarian audiovisual sector, impacts on the training of local professionals and consolidates the image of the islands as a key film destination at an international level".
The predilection of the production company Volcano Films for the island of Majorera has already a long journey. In 2007 he invited Julio Médem to shoot Chaotic Ana and in 2013 Ridley Scott and Christian Bale for the filming of Exodus: Gods and Kings. Between 2018 and 2019 it was the turn of the Canarian directors Miguel Mejías (La Viajante, co-produced with Digital 104) and David Pantaleón (Rendir los Machos).
