Films in English at the Yelmo Cinema, Caleta de Fuste
Good luck Stephen, its getting shocking reviews, my daughter went on Monday and left after 35 minutes she thought it was awful, probably the worst film she has ever seen.

We all enjoyed Cats.  I couldn't find anything not to like about it.  I think that if you've seen the stage musical then you know what it's about.  If you haven't then it would appear a bit strange.

The sets, actors and singing were all very good.

There were about 50 people there.  As my son knew the girl on the cash desk he got us in at the Seniors rate.

I don't usually like watching films (I've only watched a handful in my life) but I enjoyed it.

Glad to hear you enjoyed Cats as we are looking forward to seeing it as well despite the bad reviews and the howls of derision from the children who all say it looks really creepy.  Again I think the difference will be we have seen the stage musical and they have not.

A review from a professional film reviewer, My Daughter has seen the stage show with her mother some years ago and while she loved it her mother not so much so

Where to begin?
For the much of the movie Cats, I sat back in my chair holding my head in my hands questioning what I was seeing on the screen.

So ill judged.
I couldn't help feeling disturbed at how attractive they had made the felines. It felt perverted and wrong.
Several other audience members must have agreed as there were walkouts in my screening at the Cineworld.
The actor's bodies were enhanced by CGI to enhance the feline traits - however, it didn't leave much to the imagination.

Idris Elba's undercarriage flashed on screen several times as his tale whipped and his croaky singing voice carried through the picture.

Idris Elba and Francesca Hayward in Cats (2019) (Image: Handout)
This movie adaptation of the hit musical Cats, by Andrew Lloyd Webber, comes from the mind of Tom Hooper.
The Academy Award winning director Mr Hooper is responsible for the fondly remembered movie The King's Speech (2010), and less fondly remembered movies Les Miserables (2012) and The Danish Girl (2015) since.
Reportedly, the visuals in the film are in the process of being re-edited due to the onslaught of bad reviews. One can only hope they will be targeting Elba's nether regions in the cut.
The movie is like a dark nightmare spiraling from the director's acid soaked imagination.
One gets the feeling Mr Hooper spent so much time thinking whether he could make certain choices rather than considering whether he should.
Newcomer to the silver screen Francesca Hayward's career is probably shot already, she portrays the central protagonist who is being shown the world of 'Jellicle' cats. She is a naive white cat who is seduced ever deeper into this depraved tribe. We follow her character.
The cast is star studded. Everyone looks like a prat. No one comes out well.

Dame Judi Dench, as Old Deuteronomy, gave the inside of her thighs a scratch and flicked her legs up revealingly (Image: Handout)
James Corden is in prime irritant mode, only bleach and Gavin and Stacy can cure my impression of him now. Rebel Wilson, while slightly more tolerable, gives us an eye-full as she scratches away at her groin.
We see Dame Judi Dench, as Old Deuteronomy, also giving the inside of her thighs a scratch and flicking her legs up revealingly, her performance is otherwise slow and arduous to cope with.
I checked my watch multiple times during the one hour and fifty minutes run time.
Sir Ian McKellen should have his knighthood taken away. I don't think I will ever be able to phase out the memory of his dreadful mewing and yowling - in what was a baffling entrance.
Jason Derulo is also guilty of extreme mewing as he prances across the screen, lashing his tongue out at a bowl of milk.

Taylor Swift's character fed the bar full of cats with catnip, which they imbibed in a drug fuelled frenzy (Image: DAILY MIRROR)
Okay, so I have few exceptions, I liked Taylor Swift because I have a particular soft-spot for her. Her one song felt simply like one of her flashy music videos. In the cacophony of bad singing, she was decent.
However, her segment was troubling. She sang about the Cat version of Al Capone, and his sinister ways, whilst feeding the bar of cats with catnip, which they were imbibing in a drug fuelled frenzy.
The magic cat Mr Mistoffelees, portrayed by Laurie Davidson, had the only likeable performance - the character changed from the stage musical as a timider and less self-assured character.
Cats made me feel queasy, uncomfortable - It's one of those films that has to be watched to see just how bad it is, I have to admit I  was entertained for all the wrong reasons. However, it's just so bad it doesn't even fall into the whole 'It's just so bad it's good' category.

EDIT: removed an advert from third party. Sam.
