From Radio Sintonia:
The House of the Colonels will close temporarily for rehabilitation works.
The House of the Colonels is preparing to start the rehabilitation works. This eighteenth-century building located in La Oliva (Fuerteventura), dependent on the Government of the Canary Islands, will remain closed to the public in the coming months in order to undertake the necessary improvement works in a historic building like this, declared BIC more than four decades ago and also functions as a cultural center open to citizens. A temporary closure planned for the coming weeks, but that is advanced due to the detection of new signs of deterioration inevitable by the passage of time.
However, the Casa de los Coroneles will continue with its program of activities, which will be transferred to other spaces such as the Raíz del Pueblo Association (La Oliva), a regular collaborator of the center, and other municipalities of Fuerteventura. In this sense, the theater of the aforementioned association will host on Wednesday, March 9, the illustration workshop "This stereotype is not my type"; on Thursday 10 the screening of the film "A kind of family", within the Argentine Film Cycle organized by the Canarian Film Library, and the mosaic workshop; while on Saturday, March 12, the concert "Aguayro", by Alba Aceytuno, will be held.
The rehabilitation project of the Casa de los Coroneles proposes the stabilization of the lateral towers of the building, after detecting a structural crack in the east tower, due to a settlement of the clay soil, which advises an action as immediate as possible.
This intervention includes treatment of the exceptional carpentry of the building and the humidity of its walls, as well as the consolidation and reinforcement of land and facades, repair of damages, renovation work and replacement of luminaires, among other actions of this type of work.
The House of the Colonels, construction of the second half of the seventeenth century attributed to Ginés de Cabrera Bethencourt, is a majestic building representative of power, which took as a model the Canarian domestic housing of urban centers, typical of the Modern Age, and that has reached our days as one of the most relevant architectural pieces of the artistic heritage of the Canary Islands.
Also known in the municipality of La Oliva as "Casa de la Marquesa", it is, without a doubt, the most representative building in the area. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest since 1979, its current appearance is due to the intervention that occurred between 2005 and 2006, when it was inaugurated as we know it now.
