canarios mirador los

Mirador de los Canarios
The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Tourist Infrastructures, has awarded a direct subsidy of 1.5 million euros to the Cabildo de Fuerteventura to create a new tourist and cultural centre in the Mirador de los Canarios, in the municipality of Pájara, whose work covers an area of 2,897.95 m2.

The councillor of the area, Yaiza Castilla, highlights the importance of providing the islands with new attractions based, like this one, on enhancing the landscape, culture and identity of each island.

“El Mirador de los Canarios combines an original architectural proposal, based on the interpretation of a seashell, with a unique landscape enclave, such as the views of the coasts of Cofete and Sotavento and the artistic appeal provided by the permanent collection of an artist international like Pepe Dámaso ”.

The project, presented by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, proposes the construction of this viewpoint on a small esplanade located in the gorge of the Los Canarios ravine, located next to the cliff that faces the Barlovento Coast, within the Jandía Natural Park.

The design of the building has been based on a sketch by Pepe Dámaso himself, who interprets a seashell, the axis on which the helical generation of the shell takes place and the sequential growth of the internal space towards the exterior become important.

The building consists of a main floor with direct accesses from the arrival area that rises from the valley and from the area of the exterior viewpoint, which will also house a small cafeteria service and a shop next to the reception.

Inside, a space will be set up for visitors to enjoy the work Los Héroes del Atlántico, made up of seven large-format paintings.

Next to it there is a basement, in which there will be a second viewpoint and where there will also be room for the warehouse and the sanitary and electrical energy facilities.

Looking more into this, first time the viewpoint was mentioned was nine years ago and the plan was to spend 2.5 million Euro. Things do move really slow on the island Big Grin

Quote:The original idea of the Canarian artist Pepe Dámaso for the Mirador del Barranco de Los Canarios, in the municipality of Pájara, begins to take shape with the completion of the drafting of the design, which proposes a building in the shape of a shell to crown the cut of the beheaded where it will be located. The novelty of this project is that the property will be built with a removable metal structure. The project has a budget of 2.5 million euros that will be contributed by the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo Majorero within the Tourist Infrastructure Plan.

The Ministry of the Environment of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura commissioned the drafting of the draft, which was already delivered by the writing team, thus culminating a process initiated with the consent granted to the insular institution by the heirs of the Calixto Alberto family for the materialization of the play.

The Minister for the Environment, Natalia Évora, especially values "the uniqueness of this architectural, artistic, sculptural, tourist and environmental work that arose from the inventiveness of one of the most important historical artists in the Canary Islands, such as Pepe Dámaso." Furthermore, she added, that "we must consider the expectations that arise from the possibility of having in the near future in Fuerteventura a new top-level tourist equipment, an emblematic and referential work that will be especially linked to the natural environment in which it is located. "

The viewpoint will be oriented in such a way as to allow you to enjoy the spectacular view of the Cofete valley, also allowing you to gaze across the entire Barlovento coast.

The architectural proposal contemplates a unique and avant-garde interior space that will function as a cultural and multi-purpose facility in which the sculptural series called 'Héroes Atlánticos', by Pepe Dámaso, will be permanently located, also reserving part of the building for the installation of other exhibitions .

Thanks Sam.

Maybe they could re-open the Mirador Morro Velosa, if they see Mirador's as such useful tourist sites. Everytime I go past it is closed.or only partially open. What a waste!

I quite agree - I can't see why it couldn't have been left open. Loved the hot chocolate there and the cake, when they were still doing it.

Tried to get up to Mirador de los Canarios just before lockdown and is closed off.

It is a stunning view - one of the best on the island. It is two fold as well - one looking South over Cofete and if you go up the short rise, a view North along the West coast.

A lot of Money will have to be spent on the road access.
