From Noticias:
The new line with Huelva will have a stopover in Fuerteventura.
The senator for Fuerteventura and coordinator of the Socialist Territorial Group of the Canary Islands, Paloma Hernández, highlights the recent declaration of public interest of the navigation lines Huelva - Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Huelva - Las Palmas, approved by the Council of Ministers. As a novelty, it is established that operators must schedule a mandatory stopover on the islands of Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Palma on the routes.
These lines will join those that are already declared of Public Interest currently, Cádiz-Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Cádiz-Las Palmas, and on which Public Service Obligations are established consisting of maintaining a minimum frequency of one weekly trip in each of them.
The senator explains that both lines will contain in their corresponding tender specifications this Public Service Obligation with the character of main, which will mean, in practice, that these ships "must pass through the islands of Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Palma on their Peninsula-Canary Islands route, contrary to what happens so far, where only that scale was encouraged, being subject to the acceptance of the shipping companies".
When the tender for these maritime services takes place, a maritime connection without transhipments will be offered to the population that must travel by sea to these three islands from the Peninsula. This maritime connection will also allow the use of this line by drivers of cargo vehicles and tractor heads without the need for transhipments.
