New route to Mainland

From Noticias:

The new line with Huelva will have a stopover in Fuerteventura.
The senator for Fuerteventura and coordinator of the Socialist Territorial Group of the Canary Islands, Paloma Hernández, highlights the recent declaration of public interest of the navigation lines Huelva - Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Huelva - Las Palmas, approved by the Council of Ministers. As a novelty, it is established that operators must schedule a mandatory stopover on the islands of Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Palma on the routes.
These lines will join those that are already declared of Public Interest currently, Cádiz-Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Cádiz-Las Palmas, and on which Public Service Obligations are established consisting of maintaining a minimum frequency of one weekly trip in each of them.

The senator explains that both lines will contain in their corresponding tender specifications this Public Service Obligation with the character of main, which will mean, in practice, that these ships "must pass through the islands of Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Palma on their Peninsula-Canary Islands route, contrary to what happens so far, where only that scale was encouraged, being subject to the acceptance of the shipping companies".

When the tender for these maritime services takes place, a maritime connection without transhipments will be offered to the population that must travel by sea to these three islands from the Peninsula. This maritime connection will also allow the use of this line by drivers of cargo vehicles and tractor heads without the need for transhipments.

Tamara: this seems slightly different to the route mentioned in the previous article. Perhaps there are two, one Cadiz and one Huelva, both calling at Fuerte in both directions! If so, big improvement.

Noticias:

Awarded for 4.2 million the route with Peninsula that will reach Puerto del Rosario.
The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda has awarded the contract for the management of the service of the maritime line of public interest between the Peninsula and the Canary Islands to Trasmediterránea for an amount of 4.2 million euros.

The contract establishes a frequency of a weekly rotation, every Tuesday, in a round trip itinerary from Cádiz to the ports of Arrecife (Lanzarote), Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura), Las Palmas (Gran Canaria), Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Tenerife) and Santa Cruz de La Palma (La Palma).

In the offer presented, the service will be served by the ship Ro-Pax CIUDAD DE VALENCIA, in service since August 2020. It has accommodation for 604 passengers in 151 quadruple cabins plus another four Premium class cabins and two cabins for passengers with reduced mobility. It also has three pullman seating rooms for 189 passengers and one of them VIP class, reception, shop, self-service food-lounge, two lounge bar areas, nursery, WiFi connection, two elevators, as well as a large terrace and solarium on deck seven and other services. It also offers pet-friendly cabins and the possibility of a computer application to see pets in real time, which have a cabin equipped with air conditioning.

As for its load capacity, the CITY OF VALENCIA has a garage for 3,300 linear meters of ro-ro cargo, of which 2,564 linear meters are for ro-ro cargo and the rest for rigid trucks, vans and 263 cars. It also has a hundred electrical connections for refrigeration units and the engines are equipped with scrubber exhaust gas purification systems.

It is expected that from June Armas Trasmediterránea will carry out the fixed itinerary of nine stops on five islands and a weekly rotation, which will begin every Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the port of Cádiz. Due to the greater propulsive power of the CITY OF VALENCIA, it allows to shorten the duration of the trip by three hours, so that on Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. it will be in the port of Arrecife (Lanzarote); at 20:00 hours in Puerto del Rosario; Thursdays at 02:00 hours in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and at 08:30 hours in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. That same day, at 9:30 p.m. you will arrive at the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma.

The return trip begins on Fridays at 4:00 p.m. in Santa Cruz de La Palma. At 21:30 hours is in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and 06:00 hours on Saturday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; at 17:00 hours in Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) and at 21:00 hours in Arrecife (Lanzarote). At 01:00 hours on Sunday he continues his trip back to Cádiz, where he arrives on Mondays at 07:00 hours.
