#1
Noticias:

The Quemao Class sets a date for December 26 and 27.

The east wind could favor and improve the shape of the wave.
The most anticipated sporting event of the year, the 'Billabong Quemao Class' activates today the green alert announcing the days for its dispute: December 26 and 27.

A total of 64 athletes will meet in Lanzarote, 32 surfers and 32 bodyboarders, ready to face and enjoy the wave of Quemao in the best conditions, which guarantee the unparalleled spectacle that characterizes this test.

Among those confirmed surfers Natxo González (Basque Country), Cristian Portelli (Lanzarote), Joan Durú (France), Aritz Aranburu (Basque Country), William Aliotti (San Martín Island) and Hugo Ortega (Barcelona). In bodyboarding there will be Amaury Lavernhe (Reunion Island), Aday Borges (Tenerife), Annas Haddar (Morocco), Maxime Castillo (France), Travis Smith (Hawaii) and Carlos Suárez (Gran Canaria).

The action will begin on Monday 26 with the check-in of competitors at 8:00 a.m. Next, the fishing village of La Santa, in Tinajo, and the surfing community will pay tribute to David Infante 'El Fula', in whose memory this event takes place.

The 'Billabong Quemao Class' has the institutional support of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve, Lanzarote a Unique Island, European sports destination by Turismo de Lanzarote, Tinajo City Council, Tinajo Sports and Insular Sports Service; as well as the sponsorship of Corona and Grupo Chacón. It also has the collaboration of Repsol Playa Honda Cafeteria, El Cruce SurfShop and Canarian Surfing Federation. Event organized by Franito Surf School and In-Process.

Tamara: I visited La Santa last month, it's a lovely little fishing village on the NW coast of Lanzarote, stopped for coffee on the seafront. It's a pretty/interesting drive there from Playa Blanca alongside the National Park and then an easy route to Arrecife. Made a good day out from Fuerte.

Radio Sintonia:

The 'Billabong Quemao Class' closes its 7th edition crowning the new champions: the Basque surfer Natxo González and the French bodyboarder Pierre Louis Costes.

The surfing final faced the Basque Natxo González, the Tenerife Jonathan González, the Gran Canarian Luis Díaz and the Irish Gearoid McDaid. A series full of excitement in which the wave conditions have not disappointed and that the competitors made the most of.
Finally, it was the Basque surfer who prevailed and won the victory for the second consecutive year with two spectacular waves of 9.27 and 8.83 points out of 10. "This event is special, it never disappoints, yesterday's waves were incredible. It is always a great opportunity to come to Lanzarote", added the surfing champion.
The bodyboarding final faced the Frenchmen Pierre Louis Costes and Amaury LavernheRuyman Rey and Aitor Ojeda, both from Fuerteventura.
A very close series in which he ended with Pierre Louis Costes finishing in first place thanks to two impressive waves of 9.67 and 8.20 points out of 10. He commented that "this is one of the Events I most wanted to win, I come to Lanzarote every winter for its waves and I end up very happy". He also added that "being invited to participate is a great opportunity, this is one of the best waves in the world."
In the awards ceremony we also had the presence of Héctor Fernández, CEO of Turismo Lanzarote, who expressed the importance of this event as a tourist attraction for the island. "Sports such as surfing and bodyboarding place value on the landscape, the sea and the climatic conditions we enjoy, which reinforces the image of Lanzarote as a tourist and sports destination," he added.
Likewise, Alfredo Mendoza, sports advisor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote pointed out how the test "places Lanzarote in the center of the world map, acting as a promoter of sport and the suitability of the island for the practice of it, especially surfing and bodyboarding".
The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín highlighted the pride that it is for the municipality and the island of Lanzarote to have a wave and an event of these characteristics.
The 7th edition of the 'Billabong Quemao Class' closes its doors as the benchmark event in Europe, after two days full of action, sport and sun on the coast of La Santa, Tinajo, in which the best surfers and bodyboarders in Europe have gathered to compete in the world-renowned wave of Quemao.

A great Event. I was there yesterday and the waves were massive and perfect conditions with offshore winds. Well done to the Irish Bodyboarder who scored a perfect 10 on one wave.
The event itself is held in tribute to Davide ‘ El Fula’ Infante who sadly lost his life wiping out here in 2009. He was living in El Cotillo at the time. There’s a nice memorial plaque on the promenade in La Santa. La Santa is not unlike El Cotillo was 10-15 years ago. A small fishing village with great surf. The difference now El Cotillo has been ruined by overdevelopment and corruption whereas La Santa has retained its unspoiled charm.
