SS American Star - ever heard of it?

I visited the beach where you can view it from in Dec 16 and the engine block was just about visible at low tide at the lowest part of the wave cycle.

After storm Emma, part of the mast sections washed up on the beach. Couldn't lift it else it would be in my garden! Collected various bits of shipwreck debris.
What amazes me is how the ocean has managed to 'eatup' a complete ship.

I saw it a few times down the dodgy dirt track but well worth it.  
I read a story in one of the free magazine on Fuerte about the SS.  Apologize if not totally correct as it was a few years ago (may be someone on here can correct me)
The general gist of the story was.  A lady in the UK was being visited by her elderly mother who lived in Australia.  She had moved over to Australia as part of the "£10 poms"scheme (so over 60 years previously).  As part of the visit they took a break on Fuerte.  One day they
decided to go and see the shipwreck.  As they approach the elderly lady recognised it as the ship that had taken her to Australia all those years before.

We had Dinner at the Hotel Mirador Playa Blanca (formally the Parador) on Christmas Day and I saw this picture in the lobby.

We went to see it when it was complete in one piece. It then slowly deteriorated over the years. The last time we went, it had almost gone which left us quite sad at the sight of it. As far as I remember, it was about a 14km drive along a muck road to get there

This is well worth watching for anyone who saw the ship during the time she was beached, or wished they had.

They have acquired some large ship equipment for the restaurant, could it be from the bar in Puerto del Rosario which had a lot of stuff from the SS American star?
