The Salt Carpets of Corpus Christi return to Puerto del Rosario.
After two years without being held due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Culture of the City of Puerto del Rosario, has relaunched the initiative of making Salt Carpets on the occasion of the celebration of Corpus Christi and in collaboration with the Parish of Puerto del Rosario.
Therefore, on Saturday and Sunday, June 18 and 19, the streets parallel to the Parish Church of Puerto del Rosario will be the protagonists during the weekend of this tradition of great popular roots in the capital recovered in the 90s and that, since then, has been promoted by the Department of Culture of the Porto City Council with a growing participation in each edition.
A total of 10 groups, schools, entities and associations, including the City Council of Puerto del Rosario, the Island Council, the parish group, different schools such as the Sacred Heart School, students of the Painting Workshop 'El Piso', the Nature Classroom of Tetir and different political groups, among others, will participate during these two days making their designs in León and Castillo streets, Secundino Alonso and Virgen del Rosario.
The carpets will look in all their splendor on Sunday at noon, at which time in the church of Our Lady of the Rosary will be celebrated, from 11.00 am, the Eucharist and, then, the procession on the carpets made.
Both the mayor of the municipality, Juan Jiménez, and the Councilor for Culture who
promotes this initiative, Juan Manuel Verdugo, emphasize that "we
are proud that this popular classic returns to our municipality after two years
without being held and that, despite the difficulties, we have been able to
start up again, encouraging citizens to be interested and participate in this event
traditional and rooted where both the liturgical character is combined with the fact
of being a meeting point and coexistence of residents and tourists during the weekend
of its celebration in our municipality for the feast of Corpus
Christi ".
On the occasion of this activity, the City Council will deploy the appropriate
information setting the prohibition of parking of vehicles on the same
Saturday, June 18, and until the completion and cleaning of the streets on Sunday, June 19
