CANARIES GOVERNMENT GETS STRICTER FOR CHRISTMAS THAN THE MAINLAND - Canarian Weekly


The Government of the Canary Islands has gone against the Central Government and has imposed tougher compared restrictions over Christmas than the mainland, agreed at its meeting of the Governing Council this evening (Thursday). Julio Perez announced the measures which come into effect between December 23rd and January 10th.
According to this agreement, the maximum number of people in social and family gatherings that take place in spaces for public or private use, closed or outdoors, will be limited to six people, except in the case that they are cohabitating, meaning cohabitants those people who reside in the same address.
On the main Christmas holidays such as the 24th, 25th and 31st, the maximum number will be ten people, as long as they are cohabiting people, and in all cases, children aged 0-6 years are excluded in the calculation of these groups.
They have also imposed a curfew with the limitation of the movement of people at night between 1am and 6am, which is extended to 1.30am on the main nights.
These mobility restrictions or limitations are only excepted for health reasons, work reasons, buying medicines and other reasons of force majeure.

Regarding hospitality, which includes bars and restaurants, closing times between these dates are kept at 11.00pm, except for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve which is extended to midnight. Rules specifying a maximum of 6 people per table and two at a bar with a spacing of more than two metres are kept.
The measures approved today will be applied the day after their publication in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) and until Sunday, January 10th, without prejudice to other more restrictive measures that are in force or that could be adopted in certain islands,due to the epidemiological situation, which will be evaluated weekly by the General Directorate of Public Health of the Canary Islands Health Service.
