The Ugly Duckling - Corralejo
#1
Moved location a couple of years ago. Some may remember it near Waikiki beach. It is now on the hill heading up to Mercadona at the front of a complex called Topkapi Palace. It has wonderful views over to Lobos and Lanzarote - you just have to close your eyes to the abandoned hotel building site in the foreground. It will be an amazing place to be on New Years Eve - you'll be able to see all the fireworks from here.

Tables need to be booked all year.

Run by 2 Scandinavian guys the menu is heavily influenced by their homelands and is scrumptious! I especially like the stew! It is beautifully set up and you are treated as VIPs - definitely a place for a celebration meal. Not the cheapest but reliably one of the best, if not the best. Steak have always been spot on as has the salmon. Not an enormous choice on the menu but its all so good its still hard to decide what to order.

I don't recall it near Waikiki, although I don't doubt it was there, though seem to think it used to be somewhere near Rogues Gallery nearer to the harbour.

You're probably right - the more I'm trying to picture the location the further it recedes in my memory!

Yes, it was directly opposite Birgit & Manolo's El Andaluz. Made the corner of the walkway through to the prom.

Spoke to some Corralejo friends today and they said that the Ugly Duckling has been working on a '2 weeks open, 2 weeks closed' basis for a while now. Because it's mainly locals using it and you have to book, they have found this to be a reasonable business model for the current times. I agree, it's not the sort of place you would go each week, but you might go once a month so it seems like a good idea. Innovative anyway!
