Radio Sintonia:
The arrival of foreign tourists grows in Fuerteventura by 14.8%.
Fuerteventura was the only island that last June grew in the arrival of foreign tourists. According to FRONTUR data on the total number of tourists who moved through the Canary Islands borders, Fuerteventura is the only island that had positive data, with the arrival of 162,323 visitors, that is, 14.8% more than during the same period of 2019. The rest of the islands remain in negative numbers; in fact, the Canarian average stands at -2.8% with respect to the arrival of foreign tourists in June 2019.
"Although we must be prudent, we see that little by little we are reaching and even surpassing the data prior to the pandemic," says the counselor and vice president of the Tourist Board, Jessica de León, who assures that "this good positioning in the regional data is the result of the effort of all (administrations, companies and workers in the sector) to ensure that Fuerteventura is an attractive destination for those who visit our island."
The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Sergio Lloret, has valued these data as hopeful "with a very good tourist reactivation after a crisis that broke the economic engine of the island and that we have been alleviating with a lot of work to recover the tourism sector and with employment plans to maintain the economy of the island. We must be cautious, but the data make us think that the recovery of tourism is consolidating and exceeds the data of 2019, in addition to increasing tourist spending. "
By origin, the largest arrival came from the Italian market, with an increase of 85.1% compared to June 2019, followed by the Belgian (+75.4%), the Dutch (+7.1%) and the British (+4.9%). With respect to the German market, it experiences a slight decrease, following the trend that occurs throughout the Canary archipelago.
To this we must add the increase in the air capacity of Fuerteventura Airport, both domestic and foreign flights, since for this summer it is expected that 1,458,428 seats have been reached, that is, 15.1% more seats compared to the summer of 2019.
The progressive recovery of the sector on the island is also reflected through the indicators of tourism spending. According to the latest data provided by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC), Fuerteventura invoiced during the first quarter of the year a total of 447 million euros; that is, 12.2% more than the same period in 2019. In addition, the average expenditure per tourist during their stay on the island stood at 1,244 euros, which has allowed Fuerteventura to be placed on the second island where more Money has left tourism on average, only behind Gran Canaria with 1,440 euros per tourist and trip.
