Traffic queues on FV2
#1
Noticias:

Complaints about the intense queues on the road to El Castillo.

Driving from El Castillo to Puerto del Rosario and vice versa becomes an ordeal for users of FV 2 up to the height of the airport. It is one of the historical demands of the drivers of the majorera island, who although they celebrate the project of the highway believe that actions are needed until said project is carried out.

The road from El Castillo to Puerto del Rosario is the one that suffers the highest vehicle traffic of the entire majorera island with an average of 25,000 vehicles per day that increases in summer.

Already in 2018 Marcial Morales affirmed that the increase in traffic generated by the tourist areas of Caleta de Fuste, Las Playitas, Costa Calma and Morro Jable "is causing the current itinerary of the FV-2 between Airport and Las Salinas to be supporting an average daily traffic intensity of more than 24,000 vehicles per day". which causes large retentions, since a good part of that traffic is heavy vehicles and, in addition, it is necessary to reduce speed in urban sections.

Unfolding of the track

The doubling of the road is one of the historical demands of the island institutions to the government of the Canary Islands, an issue that remains unresolved, while users denounce the situation "Every day the same, and the time does not matter. And without a road alternative, you eat your queue if or if," Karen explains on her Twitter account, adding "the roundabout does not withstand so much traffic. Would it be too much to ask the authorities to do everything in their power to solve this?"

In this sense, users demand that the Civil Guard appear at one of the roundabouts to relieve traffic and give the possibility of a small solution to a situation that is repeated every day.

One thing that would help when going toward PDR is if they put an access road on the Caleta side into the industrial zone where IKEA Mercadona Lidl and the China shops are.  I think this has been mentioned before.

I totally agree, either across the waste ground into the Caleta end of the industrial estate,
or even a temporary second lane on the right hand side (where the culvert is) for the traffic turning right.
something needs to be done, we can´t just ´wait´for the motorway.......can we????

The issue with putting an access road into the industrial zone is where do you put it to make it affective? the only real option IMHO is off the Costa Antigua roundabout, and that would entail making the road past the china shops and Mercadona 2 way, and is it really wide enough for that? just about I think but with the amount of vehicles that are parked and need to reverse out to leave the industrial estate you then have a situation where driving along that road becomes a nightmare, unless you only allow parallel parking so vehicles can drive straight out into the traffic flow, then you have to reduce the parking capacity, and cause another problem, it would however ease congestion on the F2,.

I'm no engineeer, but wouldn't it be possible to put an access road from the costa antigua roundabout into the top of the road at the back of Tucasa, giving acess to Fran & Chemi, ITV, mercadona (there is already an entry into the car park there) and making the Lidyl second exit into an entrance from that road.
Then put a second lane in (on the right where the culvert is) for traffic turning right on the road from the Coasta Antigua roundabout to Ikea / China shops etc.
It understand it would need signposting properly and some tourists might get in a muddle,
but it is only a temporary solution  .....any thoughts?

I am not an engineer either and yes I suppose it is possible to do it that way, I would have thought the china shops, Lidl and Ikea would not be to happy, as if you wished to shop that store it would mean coming out of Mercadona and going around the block again and would increase exponentially  the traffic flow on the roundabout near the petrol station and thus negate the solution to the traffic flow on that round about.

There wouldn't be any need to change the original entrances for Mercado a etc, so in that scenario, just use the route we do now

I am not following you Classic you can only access Mercadona from the way you suggest, you would have to go to the roundabout at the petrol station to access IKea, You and Me Home the China Shops and Lidl
