Buying unfinished house in a rural area - obtaining a licence of the first occupation
Question asked on the Darkside
" I am interested to buy an unfinished villa from a Real Estate agent. It has a building permit but needs finishing and obtaining a licence of the first occupation. My concern is the fact that the actual size of the villa is bigger than projected size, although the agent says that it’s common practice for neighbouring houses, and all the townhall is interested in is that someone finishes it. It’s located in a rural area. Any tips, does it sound common to

Any recommendations or who to avoid on insurers welcome too.

Buying a 2nd hand vehicle
I am thinking of buying a 2nd vehicle privately, does anyone have any experience of the process. I am under the impression that you need to pay to have the vehicle registered in your name, how easy is it to do and is it a fixed price irrespective of the price of the vehicle.
I have bought a car recently but was through a dealer who handled everything.
Thanks

Process for buying/selling a car
Does anyone know the full process for buying (and selling) a private car?
I have only bought from a dealer so haven't had to get involved so far.
I have heard it is a hassle and easier to use a gestor to sort it.

Buying in Caleta?
We have some family members who have been so charmed by the town that they're considering buying to come out to the island full time for their retirement. They are wanting a completely detached house (party walls is absolute dealbreaker), with at least four bedrooms and two bathrooms, though 5 beds/3 baths or more would be preferred. Inside space is a priority over outside space— in this case, bigger is better. They want to be in the town or on the golf course rather than up the hill or in

Buying items from IKEA
Has anyone bought items from them that required delivery? If so did they deliver on the day promised? Has anyone used their assembly service and if so how was it? Do they take away your old furniture? I am happy to pay for assembly and disposal of my old furniture.

The original thread remains as 'buying items from IKEA' under General Discussions.
Due to extreme 'thread drift' I have copied the thread here and this can continue on the RATS theme

Buying Vs Renting
Looking for your opinions & thoughts. Hopefully be staying 6 to 12 weeks each year, only 2 of us.
Adding things up with comm fees, tax , insurance etc it's around €2k p/a running costs. Plus 10% buying, similar selling. Can anyone add any pros or cons to buying as opposed to renting?
TIA
