In these centers a commendable work is done that must be recognized by the whole society and promoted from the administrations ".

"With the launch of this resource, which began to receive its first users in November 2022, Fuerteventura will have 20 new places in day care centers for the elderly, which means fulfilling our commitment to continue advancing in the care of dependent, elderly and disabled people on this island and, In addition, we do it with a center adapted to the new regulations and that complies with the new model of care that we promote for the Canary Islands, "said the Minister of Social Rights, Noemí Santana, during the visit to the Sociosanitary Center of Day Stay for dependent people Josefina Plá, located in the area of Corralejo.

In his speech, Santana recalled that for the execution of the works of reform and provision of equipment, included in II Plan of Sociosanitary Infrastructures of the Canary Islands, there has been an investment of 100,000 euros, of which the Government of the Canary Islands finances approximately 37,000 euros. In addition, the cost of maintaining the places of this center are included in Addendum 4 of the Dependency Agreement, therefore, they are being financed between the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands and whose cost for each party amounts to 88,312.80 euros. That is, with a total cost of 176,625.60 euros.

After the visit, the authorities moved to Puerto del Rosario to visit the Residence and Day Center for dependent elderly people, a facility that consists of 107 residential places and 30 day stay places.

During the visit, Torres insisted that the administrations have the obligation to comply with the dependency law and "it is a source of joy to see such a complete building that gives life and dignity to people." The president stressed that care is one of the sectors that have grown the most, also in the generation of employment, therefore, "the opening of centers like this are not only an act of social justice but also generates economy. We will continue working to have new infrastructure."

For her part, the Minister of Social Rights said that "the island of Fuerteventura has historically been deficient in terms of the number of places for the care of dependent and disabled people; With the implementation of these resources, the Residence of Puerto del Rosario and the Day Center of Corralejo, we have been fulfilling the objective of providing it with the necessary resources. Now, our challenge is to focus on the southern part of the island to also provide it with the necessary infrastructure and places."

The works of new construction and equipment of the Residence are included in the II Plan of Sociosanitary Infrastructures, with a total cost of final investment that amounts to 10,018,410.18 euros, of which 7,215,697.79 euros correspond to construction expenses (works) and 2,802,712.39 euros to equipment expenses.
