Together in the fight against waste.

Together in the fight against waste. The Minister of Waste of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Enrique Pérez, maintains his commitment to close collaboration with the municipalities to promote waste management on the island.

In a meeting held this morning, Pérez met with David de León, Councilor for Municipal Services of the City of Puerto del Rosario, with the purpose of synchronizing strategies and efforts that contribute to a comprehensive improvement of waste treatment in this municipality.

For both Enrique Pérez and David de León, it is important to have awareness campaigns so that the population carries out a more sustainable management of waste. "Remember that there are clean points to deposit debris and household waste. This is what will allow us to walk towards a more sustainable island and recycle the highest percentage of waste, in addition to taking care of the image of Fuerteventura".

In line with this purpose, Enrique Pérez announced that, as of September 1, the four clean points located in Fuerteventura will extend their hours, remaining open every day of the week. From Monday to Saturday, they will be available from 09:00 to 19:00, while on Sundays they will operate from 09:00 to 14:00.

From his perspective, Councilman David de León reported that the City Council of Puerto del Rosario will intensify supervision in order to ensure that citizens use the clean point of the municipality exclusively for the disposal of debris and domestic waste. This will help to avoid the disposal of objects in places not authorized for this purpose.

Radio Sintonia:

Visits to Fuerteventura's recycling centres double.

Visits to the four recycling points of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura have increased considerably in the last seven months, doubling in each of them. This has been confirmed by the Minister of Waste of the island corporation, Enrique Pérez, who indicates that, from 1,098 visits received in the month of July 2023, we have gone to 2,651 in the month of January of this year.

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura currently has four recycling points distributed throughout the island. In the month of January 2024, Risco Prieto received 1,176 visits, Lajares 844, Tuineje 430 and Mal Nombre 201.

The island councillor, Enrique Pérez, describes this trend as "very positive" and is grateful that the population is increasingly aware and aware of the use of the island's network of clean points in Fuerteventura. "The data is good, but there is still a lot to do. The main thing is to raise awareness, to show that we can do a lot to improve the surroundings of our island and the environment."

In this sense, the Ministry of Waste has launched dissemination campaigns in the media and social networks to promote, precisely, recycling and the use of clean points.

Through the campaign 'Fuerteventura Limpia, Fuerteventura recycles', information is provided about the different recycling containers and their use, and the population is informed of the existence of the four clean points of the island network, for the selective collection of domestic waste that is not disposed of by conventional collection. The population is thus encouraged to go to the nearest recycling centre, with all the information available on the Fuerteventura Recicla (https://www.facebook.com/ftvrecicla) networks and in the waste area of the cabildofuer.es website (https://www.cabildofuer.es/cabildo/areas...-residuos/)

In addition, according to Enrique Pérez, the opening hours of the recycling points have been extended, which are now open seven days a week: Monday to Saturday from 08:00 to 18:00 and on Sundays from 09:00 to 14:00.

Enrique Pérez adds that "at the same time, we are working hand in hand with the six town councils so that Fuerteventura has the clean points it needs and brings them closer to the population centres". The initial document of the Island Waste Plan, already approved, provides for the implementation of new clean points in Corralejo (La Oliva), La Cerquita (Antigua) and Morro Jable (Pájara). "We are talking about a long-distance island and we have to bring recycling closer to the different localities."

"We are also going to put into operation new transfer plants, which are the facilities where the waste derived from municipal household collection is shared for subsequent transfer to Zurita. They are essential to ease the burden on municipal services and facilitate waste management. It is a priority to renovate these facilities, because they are obsolete," concludes the minister.
