Strange things growing in pool

Tamara

Many years ago we bought some succulent plants home from Lanzarote. They had small multi coloured flowers with lots of spiky petals and were growing by an ornamental pond. They sat in water in our porch for months and eventually died before being planted. I’ve seen them on Fuerte. They had shoots which looked very much like the ones you posted. Woody base and soft growth. A bit like samphire. How about planting them and keep well watered and see what happens. I’ve been trying to find them on the net with no luck yet but will post pic if I do.

Thanks GSD Girl. I'm planning to plant some up if there are more in the pool when I check it tomorrow. I hadn't thought smallish plants, my mind had been on trees or at least, triffids!

Well, this issue has been resolved at long last!

The state of the pool tiles had got so bad the owners have opted for the pool to be completely refurbed so tiles being stripped off and it will eventually be fibre-glassed. While the pool company are getting on with that I decided to investigate the 'root' problem which had continued.

Took my Majorero helper with me and we started digging outside the terrace which surrounds the pool. The culprit was the Yucca tree mentioned a few posts ago. The main plant was at least 5m away from the terrace, 7m from the pool and 10m from the furthest part of the pool that it had penetrated!

We annihilated the tree, dug out the base and as many of the roots as we could and I'll keep a close eye on it to make sure no fresh growths pop up anywhere. Took 2 of us all day working non-stop! Knackered!!
