This plant is rapidly coming in to bloom. I can never remember it's name. The plant spikes are enormous and contain thousands of individual flowers that easily become new plants.

Saw the first sign of a androcymbium psammophilum (dune/sand crocus) today in Tindaya, hopefully the bud will open in the next few days. If anyone is near Corralejo Dunes it's worth taking a look to see if you can spot them there. (see post #52 in this thread)

At the moment just in Tindaya, along the edge of our lane, a few plants/buds.

To find them on Corralejo dunes: go down the rough track behind the Oliva Beach RUI hotel (ie, on the south of the hotel). About two thirds of the way down the track/lane widens out. At this point pick up one of the little paths that start to wander through the dunes towards the beach rather than staying on the main track/lane. Keep your eyes open, watch your feet! They are quite rare so please don't disturb/pick/damage.

Squill at the Vallebrón lookout point. If anyone spots it in bloom please bring it to my attention, I've been trying to get a pic of the bloom for 3 or 4 years.

The 'shin shredder' has developed little berries:



Mats of this pretty weed/flower are all over the place:



the wild daisies (marguerites?) are about to pop open. Driving through La Oliva today I saw loads of larger ones in bloom alongside the road.


and the local bluebell, which is actually a pale murky orange! is in bloom. Only seen 4 stems this year, last year about 15.

after the Captain's post about last year being one of the driest in 30 years I'm not expecting the range or longevity of wild flowers this year but you never know …….

and thanks to some more showers we are getting a repeat performance this year;
put a smile on my face on the morning walk.

The prickly pear are blooming again and showing lots of new growth:


but a second plant only 1m away looks very sad by comparison:
it appears to be a different variety but even so the difference is quite pronounced.
