Had an interesting conversation with a local goat farmer today. He'd stopped by to pick up my garden prunings for his animals and he said his goats were very hungry because they're so cold! He had prepared Agave for them. He showed me a trailer full of agave leaves where he had cut of every edge and end because they are so sharp, so his goats didn't get bad stomachs! 🤣 I thought this was so good and sweet and caring, but funny at the same time.
For anyone who is not familiar with Agave, the leaves are lethal: pic from wiki.He also said his father used to make rope from the Sisal Agave: pic from wikiHow many years until all this personal knowledge/experience becomes 'history' only?

It's everywhere Can! It was quite a big industry here at one time, making rope.
There are lots of different varieties of agave, we have a lot of the Sisal agave and various others grown ornamentally, but whether any are Agave Tequila I really don't know!

Snap! Def the Hummingbird moths.
![]() Loads of them resting in the garden today and at dusk the air was full of them - beautiful things! None of my pics of them today on the wing are any good, with the speed of their wings and the strong wind .....

I thought I'd posted this a while back but I can't find it so must have imagined it
Back in April I had another of my strange conversations with the locals. 'Have you lost a racing pigeon? One has been in my garden for 3 days and not flying.' ![]() It was taking water but turning it's nose/beak up at any food I offered and I was worried my dog (a terrier) couldn't restrain herself any longer and would pounce. (Or a stray cat ....) No joy calling in at places I knew kept pigeons - no one at home - went to bar for coffee with pigeon in cardboard box ............... Told the landlady what was going on, she phoned a guy she knew, 5 minutes later he turned up at the bar and took the pigeon off my hands with many thanks. A week later a message was passed on to me, he had fed the bird and identified the owner and then sent it home to Tenerife on the ferry! (It had been released in a competition in Lanzarote and obviously hadn't got a very good sense of direction!) New words learnt: racing pigeon - paloma de carreras leg ring - anillo de pierna doesn't fly - no vuela won't eat - no comerá
