Norway said it will re-impose a 10-day quarantine requirement for people arriving from Spain from Saturday, while France advised people not to travel to the Spanish region of Catalonia.

Thanks Jand, here's a bit from Reuters:

Quote:The quarantine requirement will take effect from midnight (2300 GMT on Saturday), making it impossible for travellers to avoid it by rushing home.

The British foreign ministry also announced it was recommending against all but essential travel to mainland Spain. Spain’s Canary and Balearic Islands were not covered by the advice to avoid travel, but would still be subject to the quarantine.

Request to remove The Balearic & Canary islands from UK return 14 day quarantine @ Change.org

Quote:Dear Prime Minister and Constituents,

It has saddenned me to hear of the news for 14 day quarantine to be enforced when returning from the Balearic, Canary  islands due to mainland Spain not being 'safe'.  As I understand it from Spanish news reports, residents from the islands and FCO, the islands are very safe to travel into as they have next to no cases of Covid-19.

Holiday makers returning from the islands have expressed that they felt safer during their stay on the islands than at home in the UK.  They have also expressed how everybody is adhering to the rules of social distancing and mask wearing.  Therefore, we ask that the 14 day quarantene restriction be lifted for the Balearic, Canary  Islands to support the local economy of the people who have worked hard to get everything in place for the re-opening of the island.

Many families booked their holidays without acconting for the 14 day quarantine and now will either have to cancel the holiday, which some people have saved up all year for and lose approximately £300 deposit or agree to 14 days unpaid leave from work which for some could be around £700.  It is unfair to limit holiday makers from travelling to safe islands when they have worked hard to save and need to relax after an aweful and unpresidented 2020.

Therefore, we ask that you please reconsider the 14 day quarantine from the safe Balearic, Canary  islands and continue to let people enjoy their well earned holidays.

Kind Regards

Lee Sparrow

If they make an exception for the islands, a lot of Brits travelling from mainland Spain to UK will make a detour via the islands.

It wouldn't make a sense to most of the tourists from the UK. Much faster and cheaper option is to fly through other countries, (DE, FR, NL, etc).

Swiss health authorities have added mainland Spain to its list of countries from which people arriving must enter a 10-day Coronavirus quarantine. No quarantine for people coming from Balearic nor Canary Islands.
