Tetir's winery has won three prestigious awards at the international competition, highlighting the excellence of local wines in "heroic" growing conditions

The City Council of Puerto del Rosario congratulates Bodegas Gavias del Sordo for its awards at the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes 2024 held in the Italian town of Saarland.

These awards went to the Malvasía Volcánica Papaino 2023 from Bodegas Gavias del Sordo in Fuerteventura (PDO Canary Islands), with a score of 97.33 out of 100.

This world event organized by the Center for Research, Studies, Protection, Coordination and Valorization of Mountain Viticulture (CERVIM) awarded Miguel Cabrera Viera's winery with three important awards.

The "El Sordo" Winery in the town of Tetir won three awards: the Cervim Grand Prize for the best wine of the competition; the Cervim Originale Award for wine produced with ungrafted vineyards; and the Vinofed Award for the best rated dry wine in a contest where more than a thousand wines from 35 countries were presented, with a total of 370 participating wineries.

The mayor of the capital, David de Vera, wanted not only to congratulate the winery run by Miguel Cabrera for the awards of this world competition, but also to all those winegrowers of the municipality who are making a great effort in the cultivation of the vine in arid lands and who are achieving in a "heroic" way that local wines are increasingly valued and recognized in the competitions.

David de León, Councilor for the Primary Sector placed special emphasis on the importance of the consumption of local produce, a quality product, of kilometer 0 and that in this case with this award the great work done by the winemakers of the municipality is highlighted. He also recalled that at FEAGA 2024 the award-winning wine was taken to the municipal stand with a tasting that made clear the quality of the award-winning wine in this world competition.

This world competition rewards those productions from mountainous regions or heroic crops, from terraces or terrains with more than 30% decline, altitudes above 500 meters above sea level or from small islands where the Canary Islands obtained 56 medals and five special distinctions, among which the Conatvs Baboso Negro wine (2023) from the Conatvus Canarias winery of the winegrower Pedro Martín Hernández was awarded.
