Buying butane in the North
#1
Hi all,

Now living in Lajares. Where is the nearest place to buy Butane (6kg, well, actually 5.1kg) bottles, DISA or equivalent please?

btw we have received lots of help on this Forum so will post when fully settled updating a number of topics which may be of use to people.

TIA
Bill

The little ferreteria behind the fuel station in La Oliva - drive in the same entrance and it's at the far end, tucked around a corner. They (ferreteria) close in the afternoons but the tyre place in the same complex takes over the sale of gas bottles while the ferreteria is closed.

As an aside, although small, the ferreteria is brilliant! I've taken in no end of odds and ends and the guy has dug around out back and found me replacements, even down to individual screws/washers etc.

Edit: actually, both the ferreterias in Villaverde sell the gas as well if they are more convenient for you. And the staff in both are again really helpful.

That's brilliant Tamara - thanks so much. We are in Lajares so La Oliva is great and am going up there tomorrow to pick up our padron certificate (I hope!).

A supplementary to this. La Oliva Ferrateria is indeed great for refills (and for bits & pieces) - but they don't sell new bottles and we want one as a back up. Any suggestions?

I do not believe that is allowed, however there are often empty bottles for sale on various Facebook sites that would be your way forward.

Ah - seriously, that's an issue (well, not so much for us as we wanted one as a back-up) - but no one can buy a new bottle if, for example, they move into a new house?? But thanks, will check out FB.

When you buy a NEW article that requires a bottle you can buy a new bottle after completing a registration process. It's quite involved, or at least it used to be, I haven't been through the process for several years.

That is what you will have, take the empty one you purchase and change it for a full one, they do not check it is the last one you were issued with.

It is about 5/6 years since I went through the process, but it was relatively, I simply went to a filling station filled in some forms paid circa €40 job done in 15mins, but as I have said on here previously WG had all sorts of issues a couple of years later, they would not issue him with one " because of heightened terrorist activity" Rolleyes Rolleyes Rolleyes Rolleyes Rolleyes but he got around it I do not recall how. perhaps he will enlighten us/
