Radio Sintonia:
Residuos distributes 50 cages in commercial areas for cardboard recycling and 1,000 containers among hotel and restaurant businesses.
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the Ministry of Waste, has started a campaign to promote recycling in shops, with the installation of a total of fifty cardboard cages that will be distributed in the commercial areas of the six municipalities of Fuerteventura. The cages for recycling commercial cardboard have a capacity of six cubic meters and are close to the shops that are the establishments that consume the highest percentage of cardboard.
As part of the aim of promoting recycling, the Ministry of Waste will also distribute new containers for light packaging (paper, plastic and cardboard) that will be delivered to 1,000 restaurants, hotels and cafeterias that request it. In this way, sustainability is promoted among the businesses that are part of what is known as the HORECA channel (hotels, restaurants and cafeterias). Establishments will be provided with a 120-litre container, guidelines for the correct separation of waste and a distinctive seal that recognises them as Sustainable Trade Recognised with Recycling.
The president of the Cabildo, Lola García, explains that "all these actions are necessary to facilitate and bring recycling closer to citizens. This is what will allow us to move from a linear economy to a circular one, which is what Fuerteventura needs."
For the Minister of Waste, Enrique Pérez, "it is important to make an effort to raise awareness about the importance of reusing products and promoting their reintroduction into the production cycle". "That is why we encourage establishments to join this initiative, which will be carried out in coordination with the municipalities to take the containers to all corners of Fuerteventura".
Businesses that want to join (hotels, restaurants and cafeterias) should contact the counseling through the email residuos@cabildofuer.es.
