Shetland is probably the only place I have ever been, that is windier than Fuerteventura.

I agree, we stayed at RUI Oliva over Xmas last year (2023) and although it was windy and 21/22c, it was certainly possible to enjoy a naked walk along the beach, we also popped over to El Cotilio, and had a very quick trip to Jandia on our last day as the plane want leaving until the evening. I walked all of the beaches naked, without any issues at all (once we cleared the beach immediately in front of the hotel). I have put some of my video on YouTube, under the same username. There was one guy in the water naked right in front of the hotel, but nobody seemed at all bothered. We are also heading back there on 16th Feb (next Friday), as we really want to see Cofete as well as more of the South of the Island, and "Popcorn beach" in the North which we missed last time.

The beaches in the south are tremendous, great for long naked walks by the water's edge. You simply must visit Sotavento; turn off the main road at junction 75 of the FV-2 (signposted Playa del Salmo) and after the roundabout go under the FV-2 and at the next roundabout take the first right, signposted Mal Nombre. After about 400m there's a viewpoint (Mirador del Salmo) where you can pull off and park and see the beach. If you take the unmade road to the left from the viewpoint, it wiggles right down to a car park at beach level. Difficult to explain, but take a look at the area on Google Maps and it should make sense. A bit further south, the beach at Mal Nombre has sunbeds for rent as well as a good beach bar - Tierra Dorada (try the sizzling prawns!). https://www.google.com/maps/@28.1039957,...?entry=ttu

Also, if you are taking a trip to Cofete, Playa Juan Gomez on the opposite side of the peninsula is worth a visit. The turn off is not far from the Cofete mountain pass turn off. The coordinates to paste into Google Earth are
28°04'08"N 14°26'19"W There are a few photos on there. It’s only a small secluded beach but unlike Cofete, you can swim there with care. Remember that you are not covered by hire car insurance for either trip, so a small screw up could be expensive.

Many thanks for the tips, Sotavento is already on our list to explore further, on our last day we drove down to Morro Jable and finding it a bit too commercialised for us, we dropped into what I believe was Playa del Salmo but also indicated as Plaza kolo wydmy on Google maps, and I walked up from there to the sand bar to the South of Sotavento, but had to turn back as we had to get on our way to make our flight.
We are only there for 7 nights, almost double the 4 at Xmas and there is still so much to see. We have hired a motor home this time, so can more easily move from place to place rather than having to return to a base.

The coordinates to paste into Google Earth are Magoo, thanks for this I have already responded on the beach tips, but thought I should add a bit for others on the off road rental car insurance. We initially booked a basic car through booking.com as an add on to the hotel booking, but somehow their app booked it for Lanzarote rather than Fuerteventura !!! To cut a long story short, we ended up going with Gold Car at the airport and ended up with an SUV with full insurance cover and total waiver of any damage and permission to drive it anywhere on the island to any beach .... for £20 a day more than the original booking for a fiat 500. So if you do want to go off road, as we did, well worth the Money, and the VW T-ROC was wonderful to drive too.

Glad that you had a good time on the island, but two words in your post sent alarm bells ringing. Gold car. To be honest, you are the first person that I have ever known that has a good word for them. Maybe they have improved, but I would keep an eye on my credit card statement for a while. Did I ever mention how I drove 40km across the island without a functioning clutch? Maybe that’s a horror story for another day

Absolutely no problem, the car was nearly new, we were upsold the all inclusive no issues insurance on an off road SUV, and simply handed the car back for a refund of the deposit on the credit card, so thats all I can report.
