A quick note on cars. Cars are far more expensive in Fuerteventura than they are in Gran Canaria. Considerable savings ( 2000Euros +) can be made by buying there and bringing back on ferry (passenger fare + 1 Euro for the car). I believe that is all some used car dealers on the island do anyway. The beauty of this is that you can run a car for 2/3 years, sell it here and get all your Money back and a nice day out at sea to boot. The dealer in GC even came down to the dock and picked us up. For warranty requirements, dealers in GC usually have garage contacts here in Fuerte to sort out any problems.

The house we are buying is near Corralejo (Geofond area) so could probably manage without a car although I'd sooner have one I think?
I've made a list of furniture and white goods etc as the place is unfurnished but have a separate budget for that, beds & mattresses seem expensive on the island but electrical items similar to the UK as you say.
Movistar advertise a fibre internet connection which is available at the house for €38, about what we pay in the UK for ADSL2 broadband but significantly faster if their figures are accurate. Not sure if it stays at that price for long or increases rapidly though.
Oh, good lord, that was quite the typo— MONTHLY, I meant MONTHLY shop. €350-400, definitely not 1000!
You did get me worried Ducks
Looked at it and thought Hmm tHmm but would not have commented

Good advice thank you.
Has anyone any experience of the ex-hire cars on https://www.orvecame.com/
The prices seem good but no mention of mileage/kilometerage <-is that even a word?

I bought my car from Orvecame 5 years ago. It was high mileage but I thought it was a good price for an excellently maintained car. I've had no problems with it and the mileage is no longer high for it's age as I don't use it that much.
They were also very helpful in the purchasing process and did all the necessary paperwork. There was also a one year warranty.

Afternoon Pete, you have to remember hire cars here do not do the mileage that they do in the UK, there is simply no where, to go that is that far away, when we hired cars her back in the day, if we did an average of 6/700 kilometers a week that was lot, where hire cars in the UK can do over 2000 miles a week at least they did when I drove them.

www.coches.net can be recommended as a good starting point for the purchase of a vehicle anywhere in Spain. If in Canarias, search using Las Palmas as 'Provincias'.

You mean you don't all have fillet steak for lunch and dinner, and truffles and oysters for breakfast? I'm embarrassed to be seen in such company...

Juggling around the figures, pensions & other things, I think we could possibly afford to retire next April (I'll be 56) and have an income of around €18500 per year between the two of us.
Looking at outgoings I think we could afford to live in the house we are in the process of buying on that amount and whilst not a huge amount of money live okay on it.
There's no mortgage on the house.
I'd love to hear what other people think of the amount and any experiences of doing similar.
Is that income before or after Spanish income taxes ?
