"

Glue project

In Dreamland Studios it is clear that "this is an unifying and integrating project, and itwill represent the largest tractor project of the island economy that has been developed in the last 30 years. It is important that we are clear that this is a project by and for Fuerteventura, where the future workforce is very important, but that it will also represent a source of wealth for companies based in Fuerteventura with a very important turnover, which will have an overwhelming impact on the progress and diversification of the economy of Fuerteventura ".

In the same way, the promoters affirm that "For Dreamland Studios it is essential that majoreras companies or based in Fuerteventura are the successful bidders of the works, services and purchase of materials necessary for the development of the Audiovisual and Technological Complex. We know that public institutions in tenders prioritize prices, and that awards are taken by many companies from outside. For this project it will always be essential to prioritize the companies of the island within a market logic, since this project wants the whole island to grow around it".

This call is aimed not only at companies for the development of the construction and conditioning of the complete audiovisual and technological, but also at companies that will provide the services for the operation of the activity. By way of example: transporters, creation of sets, clothing stores, supply of office supplies, supply of computers and computer equipment, messengers, fumigation, laundry, dry cleaning, gardening and trades within the cinema, such as musicians, scriptwriters, production managers, production assistants, production assistants, directors, assistant directors, illuminators, camera assistants, electricians, sound engineers, sound engineers, sound designers, Foley specialists, post-production and sound mixing assistants, set designers, decorators, aldermen, costume, makeup and hairdressing professionals, specialists, personal trainers, trainers and translators, among others.

KPMG Economic Feasibility Study

The economic feasibility study of Dreamland Studios carried out and certified by the prestigious KPMG Consultancy, one of the four major global consultancies, indicates expenses of 30 million euros per year, in the dynamics of operation of the Audiovisual and Technological Complex.

Therefore, the promoters of Dreamland Studios open a call where all companies, freelancers and SMEs that may be suppliers of any type of service and / or material that demands the construction and subsequent operation of Dreamland Studios can register.

The promoters' PR is certainly working at full speed.

However, there is a growing environmental lobby against the proposed site.  There are at least three alternative sites that have been suggested, all with much better access and less environmental impact. Everything in the PR would apply to these other sites equally well, although the huge windfall gain from the increase in land value would not arise.

My guess is that they need this particular site because only here will the increase in land value provide collateral for the bank loans they will need to get the project financed.

I agree that wherever the thing is located, they will struggle to meet the visitor numbers thay say are required to make it a financial success. But by the time this becomes apparent the original promoters will be long gone, with pockets fully lined.

Radio Sintonia:

CC welcomes the passage in Parliament of the Non-Legislative Proposition rejecting the proposed location for Dreamland.

The deputy of CC for Fuerteventura, Mario Cabrera, and his group mates, Nereida Calero and Jana González Alonso, celebrate the approval of the Proposition No of Law on the Declaration of Insular Interest of the Dreamland Studios project, which was presented with the signature and support of the Popular parliamentary group and the parliamentary group SíPodemos before the Plenary of the Chamber.

"The society of Fuerteventura is in luck today because thanks to popular pressure and this NLP, we have managed to undo nonsense," said Mario Cabrera. "We have come together to show our position against the Declaration of Island Interest of the Dreamland Studios project for being located on common rustic land, ZC-SRC, isolated, on virgin soil, without connection of supplies or services, not anthropized and contrary to its protection as a buffer zone of the Biosphere Reserve, next to the Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA) Dunes of Corralejo and Islas de Lobos, the Special Area of Conservation (ZEC) Corralejo and the Corralejo Natural Park".

Thanks to the approval of this NLP, the regulatory review of Law 4/2017, of July 13, on Land and Protected Natural Spaces of the Canary Islands will begin, and in particular, the procedure for the Declaration of Insular and Autonomic Interest of private initiative projects in order to incorporate the distribution of benefits generated by the reclassification of land by the new urban rights acquired, through assignments of land for public use, the corresponding economic compensations for the urban uses acquired both to the affected territories, and to the Island Council, and equivalent, at least, to the revaluation of the land.

Likewise, the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning will be requested to issue the Environmental Impact and Biodiversity Report of the Dreamland Studios project and to carry out an alternative environmental impact study to the one presented by the promoter under the principles of prudence and sustainable development.

"The PSOE of Fuerteventura has been portrayed as a party that retreats to policies that do not respond to the general interest", considers Cabrera, who assures that "with the approval of this PNL we are in luck and we continue walking with determination towards the idea defended by Fuerteventura: in favor of projects such as the Dreamland but never on the soil proposed in the surroundings of the Dunes of Corralejo".

"From the Canarian Coalition group we have been clear from the beginning, we have managed to approve motions in all the municipalities of Fuerteventura showing opposition to this location," said Lola García for her part.

The spokesperson of the Canary Coalition on the island, former vice president and candidate for the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, wanted to be present today in Tenerife supporting her colleagues, on behalf of all the institutions of the island that have done their work and of all those groups and people concerned about the future of this project and its consequences.

"Thanks to all those who have joined forces to prevail sanity and, especially, to the comrades of the Canarian Coalition of the municipality of La Oliva, who also brought to the Government of the Canary Islands a motion in the City Council in which the councilors of the PSOE abstained".

"We are glad that the proposal has been approved in Parliament, without leaving us curious about the change of position of the PSOE, when it was precisely the socialist councilors who voted in favor of the Dreamland in the area of the Dunes of Corralejo, without thinking at any time about the landscape damage they could do ", Garcia adds.
"What is clear is that we cannot allow actions like this, which damage the image of Fuerteventura. There is no social justification that protects the Dreamland on this soil. The decrees of insular interest are not to benefit large companies with the intention of carrying out megaprojects without acquiring the right land for it. They are for real and immediate needs such as health centers, education or the Residence for the Elderly of Gran Canaria, "he concluded.

About Dreamland

Dreamland Studios is a project that was born with the aspiration of occupying a space demanded in the audiovisual industry of the Canary Islands, a city dedicated to the entire process of creating cinematography and digital located in Fuerteventura. Its facilities will consist of 160,000 square meters that will place the island at the forefront and at the epicenter of the film industry both nationally and Europeanly. The project aims to meet the demand for this type of film production and post-production facilities by national and international production companies that already have the Canary Islands for the development of their productions in natural exteriors.

It has three audiovisual sets, one of them of 6,000 square meters of surface and 16 meters of height – which will make it the largest in Europe, capable of hosting all kinds of productions; and two others of 2,500 meters each, in addition to another submarine of 1,600 square meters. Next to them, several warehouses for the construction and storage of sets or production and post-production buildings and viewing rooms. The complex will also have an audiovisual training center, a multipurpose amphitheater, leisure and restaurant area, a museum and a laboratory for virtual reality, augmented reality, triple A video games, artificial intelligence and supercomputing that will be a pioneer in Spain.

Dreamland aims to contribute to the real diversification of the economy of the Archipelago, until now highly dependent on tourism and the service sector, with the creation of a true film industry of a permanent nature and capable of creating highly specialized jobs in its different areas and of quality.

Exodus left 14 million euros in a month of filming in Fuerteventura.

Dreamland will achieve with the claim of its facilities that this type of production reaches the island constantly, mobilizing all sectors of its economy.
The film industry is experiencing the greatest of its booms and Dreamland emerges to take the lead and take the lead in this sector in Europe from the Canary Islands. The space dedicated to cinematography and high technology will obtain a large part of the income from the cinema.

A permanent EXODUS

A great example for the island of Fuerteventura of how beneficial film productions are is that of the film EXODUS. The film left in the Canary Islands 20 million euros in expenses and 70% was made on the island of Fuerteventura.

To this important benefit we must add the number of jobs generated during the months of production. More than 500 extras were hired and were not required to undergo training and had a wide spectrum of ages for acting. These people who were hired received for months the payment of 80 euros per day.

For the development of the film 122 drivers were needed and the level of hiring of Canarian technicians and staff amounted to 330 without counting the extras, of which 65% were from Fuerteventura.

185 peninsular professionals participated in the film, due to the demand involved in the project, and the absence of technicians of that profile in the Canary Islands, something to which the Dreamland Training School will solve.
These contracts were made for eight months directly, but there were many benefits generated by the tractor effect of this production. EXODUS demanded an expense in fuel that left on the island of 482,000 euros in the different service stations of Fuerteventura.

Dreamland will make Fuerteventura achieve this situation permanently from which practically all the economic sectors of the island will benefit.

Entry into the international circuit

With cinema, Dreamland will manage to mobilize the entire economic sector of the island of Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands in general. Since the project is launched, its facilities will enter the international circuit, with a two-year reservation agenda, as is the case in studios such as Malta or Pinewood in England.

Fuerteventura will not only have the largest set in Europe with 6,000 m2, which will be a great claim, but two other sets of 2,500 m2 and a Water Tank. With regard to the latter, there will be a high demand that will guarantee its coverage throughout the year. These types of aquatic sets are scarce worldwide and the reserves are permanent. The Dreamland Water Tank in particular will be filled only once, thanks to the fact that it will have a treatment plant attached. In this way, the water will always maintain the optimum quality for the work of divers and actors.

I am a little confused by the last three posts, the first of these gives the impression that there is serious objection to the location between Montana Rojo and the motorway and the application is to be refused, yet the next 2 which are of course Press Releases by Dreamland seem to give the impression the development is going ahead.

As I have said before I have no objection to the development of a film studios on Fuerteventura with the investment & job creation / employment diversification it will bring to the island and but not in that location, up near the Technology Park would be more appropriate.

Call me a cynic if you wish, but I personally am convinced this is a scheme intended to obtain planning and development permissions and afterward,  obtain Grants from the Spanish Government and also The EU. at some point after this stage is reached, it will either become untenable or be sold on for other types of development, at which time, of course, all the Money received by way of grants will have been spent??? on getting to the stage they will be at. I have not worked out how this will manifest itself, but a business employing thousands it will not be.

Is it all over??

Noticias:

Dreamland Studios will create the largest audiovisual HUB in southern Europe.... in Gran Canaria!

Fuerteventura would be postponed, once again, from the possibility of diversifying its economy.

The possibility of economic diversification in Fuerteventura would pass by and the largest audiovisual HUB in southern Europe would be installed in Telde, according to the information published by Canarias 7 and ratified by the promoters.

In this way, Grupo Newport (together with TITAN and Volcano Films) join forces with Lopesan to create what will be the largest audiovisual and technological 'hub' (logistics platform) in southern Europe, which will be called Dreamland Studios Canarias and will be located in the municipality of Telde, in Gran Canaria. The agreement between the two companies makes possible "the arrival of an ambitious project that will completely change the audiovisual landscape in the islands and that will be launched immediately," according to sources from both groups.

The film industry has experienced remarkable growth in the last decade. In 2022, more than 164 productions were developed, which left 224 million euros in our land and involved the direct hiring of 15,300 jobs, according to data offered by the Government of the Canary Islands. Dreamland Studios Canarias will provide an impressive infrastructure to the production companies so that they can finish their work on the islands, generating a greater benefit to the economy of the Canary Islands.

Dreamland Studios Canarias will be held in a space of 100,000 square meters, which will have the largest film set in Europe of 6,000 square meters, an auxiliary film set of 2,500 square meters and a water tank of 1,600 square meters to shoot complex scenes of the high seas or deep sea.

In addition, Dreamland Studios Canarias will have 5,000 square meters to house warehouses for the creation of sets, props and costumes and a building of 3,500 square meters, intended for 2D, 3D production and post-production and special effects, with a projection room where you can test the final result of these productions.

The space will also house the R+D+i laboratory, Dreamlab; the technological leisure theme park with immersive experiences and a multidisciplinary amphitheater.

DreamLab will be a space where virtual and augmented reality works will be created, as well as video games including triple A, and artificial intelligence tools will be used. As an ally, Dreamland Studios Canarias, will have the Alisios supercomputer, a team that will allow a high quality of rendering for the films and that with its power, will allow calculation operations to be carried out at the level of the needs of this industry.

In the cinema, the digitization of the image and content created through virtual reality is increasingly used, so Dreamland Studios Canarias will make available to users a multitude of immersive virtual reality experiences in its visitable area of the theme park and technological leisure created in DreamLab with its own software.

These experiences range from diving the seabed of El Hierro, to a walk through the Tilos de Moya; paragliding from Mount Teide to land in the Orotava Valley, or parachuting over the island of Gran Canaria flying over Roque Nublo.

In addition, the museum of the future will be implemented, using the most modern techniques of Virtual Reality, it will recreate from the point of view of knowledge various activities that will allow you to visit in a hyper realistic experience, the pyramids of Egypt, see how the Pharaohs are mummified or visit the Painted Caves of Galdar at the height of aboriginal culture, or step on Mars in a mission that will explain the particularities of the planet, among others.

Culture, science and different perceptions of space and time will have a unique space in this museum, which we will access thanks to facilities designed specifically for this purpose and the development of our equipment, both the machinery to be used, as well as scriptwriters, cameras, Virtual Reality developers, Mapping, actors and endless audiovisual and sound technicians. "These experiences tested first-hand by our visitors, will be marketed worldwide with Canarian seal," say the promoters.

Dreamland Studios Canarias, wants to be the best world park of immersive virtual reality experiences. By having its own software and even hardware to develop virtual or augmented reality experiences, the leisure area will be one of the most advanced internationally, even ahead of those existing in Madame Tussoud in the USA, the center of Guiyang in China or the place that the video game company Bandai Namco has in Tokyo.

Experiences with virtual reality glasses can be accompanied by other devices, such as gloves or special suits, which allow greater interaction with the environment, as well as the perception of different stimuli that intensify the feeling of reality, wind tunnels or mechanical arms.

A driving effect on the economy and another step in diversification

Dreamland Studios Canarias aims to drive change in the islands' economy. The labor supply in the digital sector is growing, currently totaling more than 72,000 professionals throughout Spain. Therefore, training is one of the great pillars of Dreamland Studios Canarias. Students will be able to be instructed through a training proposal with the most modern technological supports.

Dreamland Studios Canarias thus wants to exert an important tractor effect on the other sectors of the economy of the archipelago. Thus, transport, tourism, hospitality, catering, security, maintenance, services such as costume development, personal trainers, directors, scriptwriters, cameramen, musicians, production managers and assistants, directors, illuminators, sound engineers, post-production and mixing assistants, decorators, translators, among others, will see their activity increase thanks to this unifying project.

This training offer will include, among other actions, Artistic Design of Video Games, Programming and advanced development of Video Games, Development of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Applications, Design and development of Artificial Intelligence solutions, CGI and Audiovisual Postproduction, 2D and 3D Animation applied to audiovisual content. Likewise, Dreamland Studios Canarias will have recycling and continuous training, which are fundamental in an industry in constant evolution.
