ETIAS at the airport
#1
Any updates on the entry and exit system at the airport. We came over in October. First 20 or so led to the gates, after that the rest queued to have passports stamped, until first 20 were through. Left in December, new scanners not being used. Over again next week wondering what to expect.

Well arrived on Tuesday. There were a number of assistants and people passed through fairly quickly. However still problems. I managed to scan my passport unfortunatly the unit would not accept my picture or finger prints. The wife's passport went OK but it then flagged her as "already Registered " I suppose with all the bad press the do not want to be any delays so any problems and you get moved through and processed the old way. It will interesting to see what happens when we come to leave.

Thought I should update on the situation for residents, that is, holders of the TIE Residents Card. Show yiur passport AND TIE to the staff member nearest the entrance to boarder control. You are directed into the channel for EU and Spanish. Show Passport and TIE to the Police officer in the glass box. He scans your TIE and takes a quick glance at your passport and waves you through.

This is not applicable to anyone holding the former Green Card.

We registered face and finger prints on arrival 2 weeks ago. Lots of people but plenty of machines and staff to help and we were through in less than 15 mins. On departure just put passport on reader, face scanned and let through. However, passport stamps in and out will still be needed as well until ETIAS goes live, which is probably at least a year away.
