EU Entry & Exit Scheme
#1
I have been corresponding with the EU regarding ETIAS.

The EU has informed me that before ETIAS becomes live there will be another barrier to entering the EU.

The EU entry & exit scheme (EES) is scheduled to start in October. It will register non-EU nationals each time they cross each border of participating European countries-EU member countries except Cyprus & Ireland plus Norway, Iceland, Switzerland & Liechtenstein.

The EES system will automate border control procedures & replace passport stamping. The travellers' personal data will be stored with the date of entry or exit.

It will apply to non-European nationals travelling to an EU country for short stays within the 90/180 rule. It does not apply to holders of residence permits & long stay visas.

ETIAS will be an additional entry requirement for non-EU nationals from visa-exempt countries, including the UK. It is expected to start around 6 months after the EES.
