Exhibition at the Entallada Lighthouse
#1
Radio Sintonia:

The Entallada Lighthouse opens to the public with the inauguration of 'Ancestral Art Africa Light'.

Museums of Fuerteventura will open to the public the facilities of the Faro de la Entallada as a museum space on November 4 with the inauguration of the exhibition 'Art Africa Ancestral Light', which collects creations of the peoples of the equatorial and tropical African strip.

This space of the Faro de la Entallada will be open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., and the exhibition can be visited until November 2023.

'Arte-África Luz Ancestral' is an exhibition with extensive international experience, having passed not only through islands such as Tenerife and La Palma, but also through countries such as Panama.

The exhibition is composed of 374 pieces that are part of the private collection of Guillermo Martínez Castro, who has been visiting different countries of the African continent for more than 25 years. The author of the exhibition has acquired throughout this time objects of artisans that belong mostly to a period between 1930 and 1950.

The Faro de la Entallada stands as the ideal space to host this exhibition, being the closest point to the African continent. According to Guillermo Martínez, the lighthouse has sometimes been the light that has guided dreams and hopes, as an ancestral guardian of round trips between both territories.

For the president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Sergio Lloret, "the agreement reached with the Port Authority, last March, for the concession of use of this space serves to generate and strengthen sustainable tourism with actions such as this art exhibition".

The Minister responsible for Museums of Fuerteventura, Rayco León, defines the Entallada Lighthouse as "one of the most special and evocative places of the majorera geography for its uniqueness, location and evocative capacity for its connection with the African continent. Undoubtedly, it will become an unmissable point of visit for all those who reside and visit Fuerteventura".

Morro Velosa

Museums of Fuerteventura transfers its objective of continuing to give impetus to the network of centers and museums, with important reform projects. In the case of the Mirador de Morro Velosa, located in Betancuria, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura will undertake repair and adaptation works of the property for its next opening to the public, in coordination with the Ministry of Infrastructure.

In this way, a comprehensive reform project will be undertaken to facilitate the accessibility of the building, expansion of the outdoor terrace and space for cafeteria. The project of execution of the works foresees an investment of around one million euros, waiting for its tender this 2022.
Also, this November is expected the start of the restoration works of the Tostón Lighthouse, which were awarded for 247,253 euros. The objective of this project is to ensure the conservation and restoration of the property with work that consists of repairing those elements that present a significant deterioration caused by the marine environment and the passage of time. At the same time, work is being done to tender the cafeteria service.

Radio Sintonia:

The Entallada Lighthouse reopens its doors converted into a museum.

The Museums Area of Fuerteventura, dependent on theIsland Council, finalizes the preparations toopen to the public the facilities of the Faro de la Entallada as a museum space. An opening that comes after the work carried out by the Road and Works and Machinery Services of the Institution and thanks to the extension of the demanial concession of the Lighthouse space granted by the Port Authority of Las Palmas in favor of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura.

It should be remembered that the Council of the Port Authority of the Province, of which the president of the Insular Administration, Sergio Lloret, is a part, approved last March the extension of the concession of the La Entallada Lighthouse, as well as the Jandía Lighthouse, in favor of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura with the aim of promoting the revitalization of spaces with activities that promote their development and enrich their tourist attraction.

That is why the Island Services have carried out work on the installation of La Entallada to facilitate its opening as a museum space, consisting of the improvement and reconditioning of infrastructures, from the railings of the access ramp to the interior parquet or the plumbing of the building, among other repairs; in addition to the incorporation of informative signs and the cleaning and conditioning of access margins.

The opening of the museum center will take place with the inauguration of the exhibition 'Art Africa Ancestral Light', which will take place tomorrow, Friday, November 4, at 6:00 p.m., with the performance of the Senegalese music group Hermanos Thionue. A band whose members stand as messengers of interculturality through music and that is a sample of the cultural wealth that keeps the African continent.

In this way, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura recovers a space of more than 720 square meters of Heritage of the Island for the use and enjoyment of citizens and visitors of Fuerteventura, through the museum activity that, in the words of President Sergio Lloret, "contribute to the enhancement and promotion of the history and culture of the island, as well as the recovery of one of the spaces that make up the historical, cultural and artistic heritage of Fuerteventura". Likewise, the president wants to thank the work of the staff of the network of Museums, roads and works and machinery.

For Museums of Fuerteventura, coordinated by Rayco León, the Entallada Lighthouse stands as "one of the most emblematic places of the majorera geography, for its uniqueness, location and connection with the African continent". With their opening to the public, it is expected that these facilities will become a prominent point of visit for both residents and tourists.

'Art Africa Ancestral Light'

The international exhibition 'Art Africa Ancestral Light' encompasses a set of artistic manifestations of the peoples of Africa throughout their history. The exhibition consists of 374 pieces from the private collection of Guillermo Martínez, who has visited different countries of the African continent for more than 25 years. It covers countries such as Cameroon, Gabon, Mali, Sierra Leone or Mozambique, highlighting ceremonial figures and symbols of power, ritual masks, symbolic and funeral representations, or maternities.

Due to the limitation of the passage to road traffic, a minibus shuttle service will be enabled that will make the transfers from the beginning of the access to the space, before starting the road up to it.

This space of the Faro de la Entallada will be open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., and the exhibition can be visited until November 2023.
Museums of Fuerteventura is working to boost the network of centres and museums, renewing the musealisation, taking care of the details and including dramatised visits to improve its attractiveness.
