Torres proposes that the Canary Islands be part of the 2030 World Cup within the candidacy of Spain and Portugal.
The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, met this morning with the president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Manuel Rubiales, at the headquarters of the Presidency of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The meeting served, above all, for both presidents to address the possibility that Spain, together with Portugal, manage to organize the 2030 World Cup, after the federations of both countries made official in June 2021 a candidacy worked for years. In case that choice is confirmed, Torres offers the Canary Islands to host, sub-venue, place of concentration of selections or whatever is considered most appropriate given the relevance of an event of planetary impact such as this quadrennual tournament and the multiple attractions and strengths of the islands to host championships of this caliber.
Torres thanked Rubiales for his visit to the Canary Islands and was hopeful and optimistic about the possibility that Spain and Portugal could be appointed to organize the 2030 World Cup. The regional president is aware that "there is a long way to go" and that there will be many proposals and deadlines to meet (such as July 4, the deadline to present the possible venues), but he considers it key that the Canary Islands make themselves available to the Spanish Football Federation for what is necessary and that the islands participate in an event of such importance.
The island president indicated that there will be intense work in the coming months in search of that election, which will be taken at the beginning of 2024, and so that the predisposition of the Canary Islands to host part of the World Cup also sets in.
