The hiking program of 'Antigua moves, knows the Canary Islands' is back.

The hiking program, organized thanks to the coordination of the departments of Youth and Sports, "is offered free for all residents in the Municipality as we have been doing in each of the activities offered and organized from the City of Antigua, says the mayor," says Mayor Matías Peña García. "With the intention of favoring greater participation, promoting habits as healthy, as in this case, walking," says the mayor.

15 kilometers of coastline from Betancuria to Ajuy.

A brave group of more than twenty hikers from Antigua ventured this past Saturday to travel a route of high difficulty. Fortunately, the sun and heat gave the athletes a truce.

The City Council of Antigua continues its monthly program of hiking trails, within the framework of the program "Antigua moves, knows the Canary Islands", which is coordinated by the Department of Youth and Sports.

"The last route held was last Saturday and the difficulty of the route and the distance of 15 kilometers was added to the high temperatures that fortunately for hikers, were lower than expected, offering a truce to walkers, whom I congratulate for their determination, as well as for participating following the recommendations of comfortable clothes, adequate footwear and with enough water for the road," says Mayor Matías Peña.

The councilors responsible for Youth, Jonathan Peña, and Sports, Samuel Torres, consider that the Hiking Program, in its third edition this year, has been a success. Each month, the places offered for each route are filled quickly, and in each new edition more ambitious objectives are proposed and new features are added.

The next proposed hiking trail will take place in September. It will consist of a route of eight kilometers of low difficulty, from Tiscamanita to Tuineje. As always, during the different stages of the road, cultural, social, geological explanations will be offered and Events or traditions characteristic of each place will be shared. At the end of the route, participants will enjoy a snack. This was explained by Councilman Jonathan Peña, who also stressed that registration for this stage will open on September 11.

For his part, the Councilor for Sports, Samuel Torres, announces that work is already being done on the fourth edition of the Antigua Hiking Program for the year 2024. Undoubtedly, this new edition will bring with it new objectives and surprising destinations.
