Holidays - Will we or won't we?
#1
Hi,
My first post so here goes!!
We have been holidaying in Corralejo for the past 11 years and we are booked to come back out with J2 to stay at the Erika Apartments 25/8 to 12/09.
We were just wondering what the general consensus of opinion was amongst the locals.
Do you think Fuerteventura will be 'open' and receiving British guests by the 25th August?
The uncertainty of being in limbo is probably worse than knowing we won't be going.

International travel to restart by the end of July early August, in my humble opinion, with certain provisos, the island cannot last much longer, but it's only an opinion.
Do not confuse my personality with my attitude my personality is down to me, but my attitude depends on you!

Welcome to the forum Sam.
I would tend to agree with John. I think into August & things should (will have to) get back to some kind of normality. The island’s economy is so dependent on tourism they will have to find some way of getting to what will be the “new normal”.
We were due out early May so also hoping we can get there in August or September 😁😁

I read on the website of El País that the Spanish Government want to reach a 'new normality' through four phases (0,1,2,3) starting from the 4th of May; each phase should last not less than two weeks and at the end of each phase each situation will be evaluated by the relative province or island, in line with what the Ministry of Health recommends. In a nutshell, they would like to go back to normality by the end of June all over Spain.

But in this case I suppose it is even more relevant to see when the UK goes back to normality, which implies resumption of  flights to Canary Islands.

Jet2 have gone public and stated they intend a resumption of ALL European flights by mid June, which I would agree may be a tad presumptuous.....

Had I seen your post this morning, I would have said doubtful. However, subsequent to a weekly telephone chat with a friend who is a Cabildo council member, I think otherwise. Current future programme is to have international flights, the last to happen, starting 15th-22nd June, regardless of Sanchez' view on the matter.

Welcome to the forum Sam!

It would be nice to fly again but we all have to wait a bit longer and see what the governments come up with this time. Stay positive and don't give your hope up this easy.  Fingers Crossed

Capitan posted some good news too - The De-escalation Plan in Spain.

You're welcome. I sincerely hope that by late August a sense of normality will have returned to this beautiful island. Welcome to the forum Sam.

Thanks Sam.
Just read the de-escalation plan. At least there is a 'plan' so lets hope it it can be followed.
Not only does Fuerteventura need tourists - tourists need Fuerteventura!
I'll certainly be ready for some 'r&r' when this horrible situation is over....
