Just received an email where one of our members asked how to block posts from another user.
Here's a quick guide:
Click on the user's name you want to block and the link will take you to their profile where you can see all their info like their statistics, contact details, the most thanked post, etc.
Scroll down and on the right side you can see three buttons. One of them named " Add to Ignore List". Click on the button and once the site loads you'll end in the Buddy/Ignore List. That's it, you'll never have to read their posts again, you'll see the " The contents of this message are hidden because this user is on your ignore list." instead.
...the aforementioned email made me quite sad and wondering why are we all spending so much time to keep this forum running.
I know, it's impossible to keep everyone happy all the time but I would like to see all of us to try to be helpful to each other, not to push our views on the rest of the community.

Sam quite sad as you say as we all want to share our knowledge, opinions and any information we have about the island with others, whether they agree with what is written another matter.

Sad indeed but it is as you say Sam impossible to please everyone, having said that the most controversial post on here in my humble opinion is Ron { Spitfire } suggesting migrants should be returned to where they came from, and iI for one agreed with him, but each to their own.
Do not confuse my personality with my attitude my personality is down to me, but my attitude depends on you!

Have been thinking about it and might found a solution - Anonymising the whole rating system.
Many users are using the Thank you button to give a positive rating to the poster, only a few (including myself) used the negative one. Making this whole system anonymous will hopefully bring more democracy to the forum and will push users with extreme views out and get them to keep their controversial opinion to themselves.
So please, rather than blocking all the posts, let the poster know this kind of behaviour isn't appreciated here. This way you can make the forum better for everyone, instead of just for yourself.

Sam you've confused me here! Not hard to do!
I've just noticed that in the Photo Galleries you can now see who has 'thanked', never seen this before anywhere on the forum. This seems the opposite of anonymous.
But, I don't see how anonymousing brings democracy. Isn't that what we have anyway (anonymous)?
Also, until I thought hard about this last post of yours I didn't realise I could give a negative Rating! Just trying it on your last post to see how it works - please don't take it personally!
EDIT:
OK- I did my negative, saw how it worked but can't see how I can undo my action. If you can undo, please do! Sorrrryyyy.

There used to be a toggle button to detail who had thanked a post, that has gone, now just tells the number who have thanked. If you go to “user CP” used to be able to see full list of ratings, that is also gone. Certainly makes things more anonymous but not necessarily any better/worse

Galleries are completely different part of this forum. Made a bit later and a few bits are done quite different. If I change something in the forum (I mean heavy changes in the code) I always need extra time to do it for the galleries too.
Anyway, thanks for letting me know, all fixed now.

If everyone had to put their name on the ballot paper, how many people would bother with the elections? Privacy gives more freedom. This works even better in a tiny community where half of the members know each other. Most of people don't want to offend anyone and rather (anonymously) block some content to avoid conflicts in the future. If they can give private rating to every post, they could choose to do that without the risk of confrontation and make the forum better for everyone else.

Rating system was one of the few things I wanted to have working properly since the beginning. To let the users decide what's right and wrong, not just a few moderators. Mentioned the idea in this post and the Reputation thread.

With the way this forum has been set up & run/moderated, I personally would think it unlikely to need to block anyone for having a different opinion.
We quite obviously do not have the aggressive personal attacks & persistent tit for tat endless rubbish posting as on the old forum.
People will always have different opinions but on here people tend to be very accommodating of others opinions, which is only right.

Sam does this mean that the thank you button no longer influences the rating of the poster ., do you have to do a rating as well ?
