Importing a car from the Mainland
#1
Has anyone experience of importing a car from the Mainland of Spain? Any problems of having the IVA removed when buying from a garage? What is the procedure for paying the import tax on Fuerte (and how much was it-percentage)? Overall, was it worth it?

I imported

If its registered in the mainland, and its a used car
Unlikely you will get the IVA removed as the dealers work on a special "Used" something regime which means the tax is not deductible.

Very very few places dont use this system (mostly giant car dealers) to account for it in your expenses.

When you arrive, get some proof that the car was on the ferry. I think you can ask on the info desk when on the boat
I forgot, but my digital ticket was accepted

After arriving, I drove right off the boat, didnt stop or ask anyone

A few months later, after my car docs arrived, I contacted an agent

They asked for invoice, car docs, etc... quoted me about 8% total fee, I paid them, and thats that

Car has been here for 3 years now
No issues

was it worth it?
For me yes, I couldnt find the exact car I wanted anywhere else.

But you need to account for time and expenses travelling there, be prepared to come back empty handed if its a lemon, or endure the 36 hour boat ride back that could make you sicker than kid in kindergarden
