Approved the Modernization and Improvement Project of Irrigation in the south central area of Fuerteventura.
The Popular Group in the Cabildo of Fuerteventura has supported this morning the Project of Modernization and Improvement of Irrigation in the south central area of Fuerteventura, taken for approval through an extraordinary and urgent plenary session, and thus do not lose the 13.2 million euros of its financial statement after the Ministry extended for the second time the deadline given to the Cabildo for the signing of the collaboration agreement between the Consortium of Water Supply to Fuerteventura (CAAF) and the State Mercantile Society of Agricultural Infrastructures (SEIASA), entity proposing this project and that will increase in the medium term the flow of water destined to the majorero field.
"Although we have doubts regarding the technical part of the project, we are clear about the meaning of our vote because we are talking about a problem that is not political parties; the problem of water has ceased to be the problem of a Government and has become the problem of the island ", said the counselor and candidate of the PP to the Presidency of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Jessica de León, who applauds the work done by all the counselors who have passed through that Ministry ". De León has also advocated the unity of all political parties in a problem that affects all municipalities and thousands of residents of the island.
The Irrigation Modernization and Improvement Project, planned for the south of the island and declared of general interest, includes the construction of a desalination plant with photovoltaic plant in Gran Tarajal, a deposit of 4,071.60 m3 in Mazacote and a semi-excavated pond in the ground in Tesejerague, as well as the corresponding impulsion pipes and a remote control system to guarantee the correct functioning of the entire cycle since the water is desla in Gran Tarajal until it reaches the farms. All this has a financing of 13,250,000 euros, of which the CAAF, through an agreement with the SEIASA, contributes 132,000 euros.
This project is expected to improve in the medium term the flow of water destined to the cultivation areas in the municipalities of Tuineje and Pájara, whose water demand is estimated at 6,806.9 m³/ha per year, according to the studies of the state agency. In this sense, SEIASA foresees that the works included in this plan will be ready on December 31, 2026.
