Radio Sintonia:
La Oliva will have an Islamic cemetery in the vicinity of the existing one.
In a statement sent this morning to Radio Sintonía Fuerteventura from the town hall of La Oliva, it is reported that Mayor Pilar González, accompanied by the first deputy mayor Julio Santana, held a meeting with Mohamed Amjahdi, subdelegate of the Spanish Islamic Commission and Mohamed Agourram Sabri, president of the Islamic Community of Corralejo. This meeting served to lay the foundations for the construction of an Islamic cemetery in the vicinity of the current cemetery of La Oliva.
"Every day the Islamic community in La Oliva is larger and we are aware of the need to have a space enabled in the municipal cemetery so that its faithful can be buried as they profess their faith" stressed the mayor; "It is about preserving their traditions and a recognition of the multiculturalism of our municipality where all citizens must be treated equally without exceptions or exclusions," he said when transferring the acceptance of his request to the representatives of the Islamic community.
Today this community is the third in terms of population in the municipality and for many years enabling this funeral space has been one of its main claims.
