Gran Canaria rises to level 2 COVID 19 due to the evolution of its healthcare indicators.

The Ministry of Health has updated this Thursday the health alert levels after the epidemiological report of the General Directorate of Public Health, carried out in accordance with the new criteria of the Surveillance and Control Strategy of COVID-19 after the acute phase of the pandemic, based on the indicators of use of care services.

According to this report, the island of Gran Canaria rises to alert level 2, medium risk, given the evolution of its assistance indicators and the rest of the islands continue at the same alert level in which they were, remaining at level 1 or low risk.

In the case of Gran Canaria, which rises to medium level until January 12, 2023, there has been an increase in the rate of new hospitalizations due to COVID of ICU beds per 100,000 inhabitants in the last week. The ascent to medium level of Gran Canaria being subject to periodic revaluations, even in advance of the date indicated if necessary. However, the rest of the indicators of this island remain at low risk or controlled circulation, as in the other islands.

The indicators of use of health services, referring to bed occupancy are fundamentally those that mark the severity caused by COVID-19, and those that are taken into consideration to determine the level of health risk. In this way, five alert levels are established (from 0 to 4) that evaluate whether the situation is controlled circulation, which would be the lowest, or low, medium, high or very high risk.

Healthcare indicators

In the whole of the Autonomous Community, the daily average of conventional hospital beds occupied by COVID-19 patients stands at 1.95 percent. The level of risk in percentage of occupancy of conventional beds is at low risk level or in controlled circulation for all islands.

Trend in ICU bed occupancy

The number of occupied ICU beds remains in controlled circulation on all islands, with an occupancy rate of two percent and an average weekly occupancy of 10 beds.

The ICU bed occupancy rate per 100,000 population remains at an average of 0.51 ICU beds occupied per 100,000 inhabitants, with all islands continuing in controlled circulation. However, the rate of new hospitalizations due to COVID of ICU beds per 100,000 inhabitants stands at 1.01 ICU admissions per 100,000 inhabitants, a low risk level. Remaining at controlled circulation level or low risk level in all islands except Gran Canaria which amounts to medium risk level.

Incidence in people over 60 years of age

In the whole of the Autonomous Community, the rate of Cumulative Incidence at seven days for people over 60 years of age stands at 136.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. All islands remain at low risk level or controlled circulation.

China worries, and a lot

There are many similarities between those first days of the pandemic and what is happening right now in China, when the Coronavirus exploded in the city of Wuhan, with the situation that is now seen in many corners of China: collapsed hospitals, lack of medicines and absence of credible figures of infections and deaths due to the allergy to transparency that the Beijing regime has.

Even the response of some countries to the wave of COVID in China is reminiscent of what happened almost three years ago: more controls at airports, requirement of negative tests for travelers arriving from the Asian giant and quarantines for those positive. Recovering some of these measures is what they have already decided in the United States, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, India and Italy. In the latter, on a flight that landed at Milan airport on December 26, 52% of passengers tested positive.
