This Sunday, March 20, some 5,000 people had booked in their agenda an appointment with what is the most emblematic act of the Carnival party of Puerto del Rosario: the Achipencos Regatta that, after two years of break due to the pandemic, returned to the bay of the capital of Majorca to throw into the water, and lucky, about 16 ingenious 'Hydrodynamic Carnival Gadgets Driven by Non-Polluting Energies, Obviously', whose crew and co-pilots made the public enjoy a good dose of humor and unique entertainment during this day that was musically enlivened by a marathon composed of different orchestras, musical groups and singers in the Day Carnival. The maritime avenue of the capital, without a doubt, was the great protagonist of this day in which the desire and the illusion to revive the Carnival spirit came together. The Achipencos Regatta, the original idea of the collective 'Así andamos' and organized by the City Council of Puerto del Rosario, continues to be one of the main Carnival attractions and is characterized by being the only regatta of these characteristics in all of Spain and the Canary Islands. Hundreds of sailors eagerly awaited to go out to the bay to have fun and make the public enjoy their original ideas, fighting so that their gadgets did not sink and arrive, safe and sound, on the shore of the beach of Los Pozos. In addition to the public, numerous media gathered in the maritime avenue to report on the evolution of this unique regatta that had appearances both in programs at the national, regional and island level, in addition to hundreds of images that circulated on social networks to inform of this event, being a good reflection of the popular acceptance of this initiative. Once all the achipencos participating in the Carnival crossing arrived at the beach of Los Pozos, the mayor of the City Council of Puerto del Rosario, Juan Jiménez, the Councilor for Celebrations, David Perdomo, and the Councilors for Personnel and Tourism, Peña Armas and Sonia Álamo, presented the different awards. The prize for the best presentation went to the achipenco with the allegory 'Pesca Radical', the prize for the best propulsion went to ¡Ay mamá! and the promise prize went to 'The Pirates of Sunflower Oil'. The award was also given for the best individual costume, which went to 'Los Caballeros', and the best collective costume for 'Los niños del Sol, Rotonda Morro Jable'. The mayor Juan Jiménez, and the Councilor for Celebrations, David Perdomo, on behalf of the Local Corporation thank "both the brave participants of the Regatta and the public for the successful expectation that has caused the return of this act, one of the most emblematic and participatory of our Carnival that, as we have already proposed to the Government of the Canary Islands should be declared as a Festival of Tourist Interest of the Canary Islands for the expectation it causes and for the tourism promotion it generates". The Councilor for Celebrations, David Perdomo, has been very "proud of the success of this call and the response of the people to come and have fun in this party so unique and so ours". From the City Council reiterates the recognition and gratitude to the collective 'Así Andamos' for having been the promoters 23 years ago of this event so consolidated in our island as is the Regatta of Achipencos, as well as for its work carried out during all these years by the Carnival of Puerto del Rosario, "being an example of participation and fundamental piece in the projection of the Carnival of the capital, with its own signs of identity," adds the municipal councilor. The different performances of Son de Aquí y Allá, Quilombo, the orchestras Grupo Bomba and Nuevo Klan, Aseres, the Furia Joven orchestra, Juan Manuel La Línea, the DJ Abián Reyes and the Cuban singer based on the island, Jake Williams, who presented to the public for the first time the single composed solely and exclusively for the Carnival of Puerto del Rosario 2022, put the finishing touch to this day of illusion lived with the Regatta of Achipencos and the Day Carnival on this fourth day of the capital Carnival party this year. There are still many unique acts to enjoy this popular festival of the capital of the island such as the Feast of the Third Age that will take place next Wednesday, March 23, at 6:00 p.m., in the los Pozos stand with a Tribute to Alejandro Fernández and the performances of Laly Lean and the Jacomar orchestra, as well as the Great Drag Gala next Thursday, March 24, at 9:00 p.m. in the Insular Auditorium; the Great Gala of the Children's Queen on Friday, the 25th, at 7:00 p.m. also in the Insular Auditorium, followed by the Great Carnival Parade on Saturday, March 26 and, as a culmination to this Carnival, will take place next Sunday, March 27, the Burial of Mrs. Sardine.
