We stayed at The Olivia Beach about 40 years ago it was a Nove Hotel back then, and a very nice hotel, but there were rumours circulating then that the government wanted to demolish it, we always intended to return but other destinations always tempted us elsewhere, we did return in 2006, and it had become a Rui hotel, we had a nice enough holiday, but it was not the hotel it had been and looked as if it needed demolishing, we had some friends stay there in 2014, and they were less than impressed with it.

So, does this turn out to be a case of “The hoteliers Organization” who have been instrumental in blocking private individuals gaining rental licenses & trying to restrict island bed numbers to their own establishments only being on the fiddle for years !!! And they have the politicians in their pockets !!! The hypocrisy is beyond believe 😂🤣😂🤣

Would it ever be properly demolished or simply left to decay like so many other buildings and half finished buildings?

The Tres Islas, on the other hand, is an interesting counterpoint to the dunes area and it's shape reflects the mountains in the area.  It is also an interesting example of the work og the architect, Miguel Fisac

Stayed there for a weekend last year when we had family staying in Correlejo. The staff do their best and aim for a five-star experierence, but they can't help the fact that a little shabby at the edges. The hotel could definitely use an update in places. 

IMO, it would be a shame to see it torn down and lose all options for staying in that area. It's an amazing spot to wake up in.

Thank you for all the information  that's been posted on this hotel , my wife and I are booked to stay at the hotel in early March 2020 and read many reviews from returning travellers saying that the hotel is in constant flux regarding demolition  and  refurbishment indeed Tui insist that the hotel was refitted late 2018 early 2019 which is contrary  to the reviews I've read . Can this be confirmed ? Thank you in anticipation

I think the only thing that is certain is that the whole situation is surrounded by uncertainty!

Having said that, this is Fuerteventura, things tend to move slowly and as your holiday is only a few weeks away I think it's unlikely that much will happen before then, so relax and enjoy!

I have friends that stay there each year and after their stay in late 2019 they reported that although their bedroom was a little 'tired', it was comfortable and scrupulously clean. The food was it's normal high standard with plenty of choices. The staff were great as always. Personally I feel that it's position on the beach overrides any other consideration - how could you not enjoy a holiday on the dunes beach paradise? (That leaves out my feelings on whether the hotel should be there in the first place!)

Riu, owner of the Corralejo hotel, summons workers next week to announce the start of the ERE in view of the fact that Costas has not granted permission for the extension works.

The most dire forecasts have been fulfilled for the almost 400 workers of the Oliva Beach hotel, in Corralejo. The Riu chain, which owns the establishment, places them next Tuesday to inform them of the start of the Employment Regulation File (ERE) process.
This decision comes after the Ministry of Ecological Transition has not granted the license to expand the hotel, which is in the public maritime land domain. The seven manifestations of the workforce, five in Fuerteventura, one in the Delegation of the central Government in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the last before the Madrid headquarters of the ministry, nor the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and the City Council of La Oliva. Right now, and according to Adrián Fernández, a member of the company committee for UGT and president of the citizen platform Save the Oliva Beach, corroborates, the workers are mired in "total uncertainty" about their future. «The Socialist Government, who should preserve the jobs, will take their livelihoods and do not believe it. They are the ones who are putting the obstacles and doing their best to send us home without a job ”, the union representative accused.
Most of these almost 400 employees are more than 20 and 30 years old in the hotel that opened in 1977 at the gates of what was later classified as Natural Park of the Dunes of Corralejo, in the municipality of La Oliva. At the meeting next Tuesday, at 12 noon, in the same Oliva Beach, Riu will reveal what type of Employment Regulation File (ERE) the template is exposed, whether total or partial, with which the uncertainty is greater.

Works permit first, administrative concession in Costas after.

Next year is the year that Riu warned workers that, given that the Ministry of Ecological Transition did not approve the rehabilitation of the establishment, there was no alternative but to propose an ERE. The workers then requested a truce in order to try to accelerate the processing of the works license and request the collaboration of all institutions and public offices.
The proprietary chain granted a few months to the staff that has not stopped moving and meeting with each other, but the truth is that it has been of no use since collective dismissal is already a reality.
«The delay in the beginning of the ERE has not served at all in view of the intransigence of the Ministry, which has not wanted to unlock the building permit, so the owner company has been forced to summon us next Tuesday and resume the file », confirms the company committee that is registered as an interested party with Riu and now the City Council of La Oliva. Once again, the workers and the proprietary chain returned this week to go to Transition Ecological requesting information on the status of processing of the works license «and the only thing we know is that the Ministry is looking at more reports because they want to question the concession administrative in the maritime land public domain ».

The workers argue that the Oliva Beach modernization project is "viable and legal," Adrián Fernández attests, so he urges the central government to give the license "and then we will comply if the administrative hotel concession in Costas is legal or not, that a judge will decide.

In fact, he argues that "no president of an autonomous community would allow this in their territory."

While all this going on, the RIU website is not taking bookings at the Oliva Beach (nor the Tres Islas)  from Novemeber 2020 onwards,. But, oddly enough TUI (who own the hotels) are taking bookings for packages at these hotels for these dates.

I suspect that, fi the hotels close, then anyone with a booking will be moved elsewhere, probably without being able to get a refund

The City Council of La Oliva claims the Ministry that authorizes the rehabilitation of Oliva Beach following the criteria of the State Advocacy.

The State Advocacy report reflects the same thesis that the La Oliva City Council and the workers' company committee have defended, in terms of regularizing the possible anomalies detected in the official review file of the Hotel's administrative concession Riu Oliva Beach should not involve the rescue of the entire administrative concession, or the cessation of the works and improvements file requested by the company.

It should be recalled that the mayor of La Oliva appeared in February in the administrative file that is followed in the General Directorate of Coasts, then announcing legal actions, and without having received information to date.

The government group at the Corporation maintains that it is not about defending a specific company, but rather the hundreds of families who work at the hotel and who depend on the establishment being able to upgrade to be competitive. The Hotel Oliva Beach generates about 400 direct jobs, and thousands indirect ones that are generated with local suppliers, airlines, transport companies, tour operations at destination ...

"It is the interests of the entire municipality that are in danger, 1,500 clients who stay on average every day at the hotel, ten planes that arrive in Fuerteventura a week and that we cannot afford to lose."

I saw some of the leaving the meeting and it was heartbreaking to see the deep anxiety in their eyes.
